I am a Registered Psychologist who is passionate about providing children and youth with early interventions to prepare them for the challenges they may face in their day-to-day lives. I believe that early intervention is important in order for children and teens to thrive in their adult lives. Common challenges that children and teens face may include depression, anxiety, family conflict, behavioural concerns, stress management, grief management, divorce adjustment, and more. Although I specialize in children and teens, I also offer adult sessions in certain situations.

Sometimes life can give you challenges that seem impossible. You may feel overwhelmed by stress, responsibilities, or expectations. Or you want something to be different, but don't know what. My goal is to provide a space where you are seen and heard. I bring my life experience to better understand yours. Change is hard, but not impossible. Together we will find the sticky points and develop a plan to get unstuck.

I enjoy working with clients who struggle in relationships, marital, family, professional or familial. Having a background in attachment theory I work well with individuals/couples who struggle with depression or anxiety stemming from events and relationships from their early childhood, and find themselves choosing similar relationships now which do not fulfill them. I excel assisting individuals who suspect themselves of struggling with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) either due to a large trauma in their history, or due to several small trauma's. I work with individuals and families aged 3-70, whoever is ready to address their concerns.

Are you ready to move forward and learn new ways of facing life's challenges? Facing the day with hope rather than despair. Facing challenges head on and having faith that you will succeed. Having a goal, a plan, and the support to get there. Forming deeper connections with those closest to you. Rediscovering your passion and confidence. Rediscovering hope. When life becomes particularly difficult, it can help to have someone guide you along the way. The decision to come to counselling is never an easy one and takes both strength and courage. There is help. There is hope.

You’re overwhelmed, burnt out and struggling with the stressors of day to day life. You’re trying to juggle all your responsibilities, taking care of others when all you want to do is lay down because life feels out of control. Some days you are so over stimulated that you need the noise to stop so you can just think. Wanting to let go of the hurt from the past so you can move forwards. Saying “I am NOT okay!” is the hardest and most important step in taking control of your life and pushing yourself to heal and move forwards towards the life you've dreamed of and deserve!

Many of us will have times in our lives where we are overwhelmed by our experiences and feel stuck. We may have difficulty understanding ourselves (and others), putting our experiences in perspective, and finding our way forward. During times like this it is valuable to have someone to talk to about those experiences, a safe place to sort through the many thoughts and emotions, a place where we feel accepted and understood, and can clarify for ourselves the way forward.

I believe that healing is a personal process that involves strengthening the body, mind and spirit. I empower my clients to learn and grow in ways that activate their potential and help them heal and grow. Some people have different strengths and comfort zones, so I use an eclectic approach to unlock the strengths and capabilities of my clients. Sometimes the best healing can happen outside the office like on a walk or interacting with an animal.

As a Humanistic Therapist, therfore I seek to work in tandem with people to come to understand how their worldview affects life choices, especially when one is in distress. I believe that you are the best person to understand your experiences and needs, my role is simply to guide and support the process. My approach is a balance of helping people to better understand their experiences and offering guidance and support, all the while ensuring I am not interpreting one's feelings. You are viewed as the expert in your life. I will support self-acceptance by providing empathy as you work on personal growth to achieve positive changes.

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
