Treatment may utilize strategies from CBT, DBT, ART, Solution-focused therapy, art therapy and other approaches.
"Change is our only constant." I often find myself saying this to my clients as well as myself when undergoing a sudden change, challenged through a difficult event, or simply trying to navigate the stressors of everyday life. Sometimes it is difficult to manage or adjust to changes on our own and we need additional support. I hope that with my expertise I can walk alongside you to provide support when it is most needed and to help you navigate the emotions, thoughts, behaviors, and stressors that are getting in the way of your wellness.

I work from an integrative approach pulling from CBT, DBT, Solution Focused Therapy, Accelerated Resolution Therapy, and Gottman Method Couples Therapy.
We all experience challenges in life and can benefit from some extra support. The process to begin therapy can be daunting, but I strive to offer a warm and welcoming environment. I like to work with various personal challenges such as anxiety, ADHD, stress, self-esteem issues, relationship challenges, and trauma processing. I believe in working from a collaborative approach, where we work together to reach your goals. It is important to me to offer a place where we can build a solid connection and create a supportive and non-judgmental space to explore your inner conflicts, challenges, and/or relationship difficulties.

The joys we experience in our day-to-day lives can be derailed when we become overwhelmed and confused by what we are feeling and what to do with those feelings. To experience peace, develop meaningful connections, and maintain a sense of contentment, it is necessary that we learn to identify what might be negatively impacting us and approach it with curiosity. The ideal future you envision for yourself is within reach when it is pursued in a safe and non-judgmental environment with a person you can trust. I take a holistic approach that views all symptoms, physical and emotional, as our body and mind’s way of communicating with us.

Accepting new clients...Have you reached your limit in pain/stress/worry? Are you growing more concerned about your relationship with alcohol and/or drugs? Or are you worried about the alcohol or drug use of someone you love and you aren't sure what you are 'supposed' to do or not do. Are you starting to realize that maybe you "don't got this", and that you need some help? Patterns of unhealthy or unhelpful behaviours developed over time CAN be changed; coping with trauma and anxiety IS possible. This can be a tough and confusing time, but reaching out for help indicates that you have hope...now it's time to build on that hope.

I also have training in cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), mindful self-compassion (MSC), accelerated resolution therapy (ART), dialectical behaviour therapy ( DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT),.
I take a holistic approach to counselling and recognize the intersectional nature of people’s lives and identities. Outside of private practice, I worked in public health in an outpatient setting so I have helped support individuals of all ages, experiences, and mental health concerns. Specifically though, I love working with women, overwhelmed achievers (lawyers, educators, students, mothers, health professionals, artists, helpers, athletes, and so much more), in addition to folks who struggle with anxiety, perfectionism, grief and loss, and managing emotions (such as with ADHD and BPD).

Other approaches I use in treatment include CBT, solution-focused therapy, narrative therapy, DBT, and existential approaches.
In my initial sessions, clients usually say, “I want someone that gets me.” This is a shared feeling; I also want my therapist to “get me” and connect with me. Hence, I use evidence-based approaches to build this connection with my clients, honoring their stories and enabling them to feel heard, unjudged, and respected. This alliance, I believe, is fundamental to the results we collaboratively attain in therapy. I work with children, teens, young adults, seniors, couples, and families from a person-centered, systemic, and strength-based lens.

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behaviour and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behaviour, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioural change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behaviour; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
