Feeling really worried? Having trouble sleeping? Struggling to adjust to change? I can help. I work with adults to manage unpleasant emotions and thoughts; improve sleep; develop decision making and problem solving skills; deal with imposter syndrome; and cope with life transitions (i.e., becoming a parent/caregiver, changing job/career, moving to a new place, retirement, relationship challenges). Together, we can make sense of your current situation and determine how you can improve your wellbeing and overall life satisfaction. I have worked with diverse populations and welcome all adults.

I believe that life doesn't have to be so hard, and every single one of us is capable of accepting more ease in our lives. Through clinical hypnotherapy, I support individuals who are ready to change by effectively addressing chronic anxiety, phobias, negative thinking, and insomnia, often more quickly than traditional talk therapy. My clinical hypnotherapy services are designed for individuals seeking more ease and fulfillment in their lives. We begin by establishing clear, measurable goals tailored to how you would rather feel. Our approach helps you regulate your nervous system, release old patterns, and embrace a life of ease.

I have a special interest in post-secondary concerns, parenting, adoption, ADHD, procrastination, sleep and insomnia, trauma, grief, mindfulness, burnout, and chronic pain & illness.
Everyone has times in their life when they can benefit from some additional support. Seeing a counsellor shouldn’t be an intimidating experience. My goal is to help you discover new ways of looking at your life and learn skills that will help you move forward. You are the expert in what you are going through, but I will support and guide you as you set goals and make the changes you want to make.

It can be frustrating and confusing when life looks good on the outside but doesn’t feel good on the inside; feeling tired, overwhelmed and disconnected from the things you worked so hard to have. Therapy may seem like one more thing to do in an already busy life, but there is part of you that is curious about whether it could make a difference. As a Ph.D. level Clinical Psychologist, I have spent the past 10 years successfully treating adults with depression, anxiety, OCD, insomnia, perfectionism, life stress, and relationship difficulties.

My current practice includes assessment and therapy for schizophrenia and psychosis, mood and adjustment issues (grief/loss, depression, Bipolar Disorder), anxiety issues, obsessive-compulsive patterns (OCD), trauma and stress, sleep issues, addictions, anger management, and relationship issues.
I believe that psychology is a tool for solving problems and working through change. In my career, I have helped many people 'get unstuck', overcoming emotional difficulties and working through trauma, grief, and loss. I also regularly work with couples and families, helping with challenges including marital conflict and parenting difficulties. My approach is integrative, and tailored to each person that I meet. I draw upon a number of evidenced-based approaches, including emotion-focused therapy, psychodynamic therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy, experiential therapy, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused therapy.

You're struggling. Perhaps you can't sleep anymore, or you are seeking comfort in all the wrong places. Maybe you're depressed, finding it difficult to get out of bed and come out from under a cloud of ever-present despair. Maybe you're anxious - heart pounding, sweaty, shortness of breath, obsessive over simple tasks. Perhaps you are drinking too much or using drugs. You might even just be tired, withdrawn, sure that there is more to life but not sure what to do about it.

Sleep or Insomnia Counsellors

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
