Hello. My name is Melody Evans. Welcome to my practice, Can’t We Just Get Along Counseling? The name of my practice is unconventional, but I believe it reflects a truth about life: at some point, we all struggle to get along with someone in our lives. It may be a person we work with, live with, are in love with, or even ourselves. This disruption can profoundly affect people's mental health. As the founder and senior therapist of Can’t We Just Get Along Counselling, my company's mission is to assist in alleviating psychological pain caused by trauma and relationship issues. I work with individuals, couples, teens and families.

Hi! Let’s take a deep breath: you’ve made it past the first step of identifying you need some help. In a world that is often too loud and busy, it is easy to fall into thought patterns that you are lacking; as a therapist, it is my role to help you shift that narrative from deficit to plenty. I believe mental health is fluid experience and that understanding your emotions and building meaningful coping strategies is key to sustainable resilience. My role is to create a safe and empathetic space for you to be vulnerable and show up as your authentic self. My practice style is grounded in attachment-based and family systems theory.

Do you struggle with feeling disconnected from yourself and others? Do you put your needs at the bottom of the to-do list? Do you wonder if life should feel somehow better? Happier? Now more than ever, people are feeling anxious, overwhelmed and uncertain about how they are supposed to manage their relationships, careers and their lives. Pushing away your needs, trying to do it all alone, and not taking time for yourself can lead to long-term issues for your mind and body. We believe it shouldn’t be so hard to live a better life. Everyone deserves a team.

The resiliency of individuals who have experienced trauma in their childhood humbles me. When speaking with clients with childhood trauma, clients often say that this is the first time that they are talking about their traumatic experience. The reason that they are choosing to address the trauma now is because it continues to get in the way and they want to create change in order to move forward with family, relationships, work, or quality of life. I can help process the trauma so that moving forward is possible.

You’re feeling burnt out, on edge and depleted to the point where you don’t know how to stop feeling this way. You feel disconnected from the things that made you the best version of yourself. You may not be sure who that is anymore. You might find coping skills and strategies that used to be effective are no longer working. You are less able to juggle what you were once easily capable of and you feel frustrated. Cumulative stress can take a significant toll on even the strongest and most motivated individuals. When there are too many stressors over a period of time without sufficient relief, even small things feel overwhelming.

Many of us are unaware of how our family influences and past traumas and experiences continue to create conflict in our existing relationships. The resulting behaviours are often self-defeating, painful, and unfavourably impact others. My own lived experiences and the validation of the approaches I use creates an empathetic, compassionate, and non-judgmental environment that allows you to experience a new positive sense of self and others.

Reaching out for help when you are in pain, or wanting to change and grow, is a natural and healthy thing to do. My background as an Occupational Therapist in Palliative Care set me on a healing path that includes the body's wisdom and the whole environment when taking the next steps. I provide somatic psychotherapy for individuals and couples, which adds a potent dimension to traditional talk therapy such as CBT. I create a safe place to allow greater exploration and the risk of change. FOT is the gentlest and most respectful approach to trauma that I know. It is ideal for improving inner and outer relationships.

In life, we can find ourselves challenged in ways we did not expect or anticipate. Life can become difficult and overwhelming to manage at times. In such moments, it can be helpful to seek support from someone who might help unearth possibilities and support you in finding healthier and adaptive ways to manage and cope. It is my belief that developing a strong, trusting, and collaborative therapeutic relationship is the cornerstone to therapeutic success. Through mutual respect, genuine empathy, and trust, individuals can be seen and heard, and encouraged to create the changes they want in their lives.

Hi, I’m Gio (they/them), and if you're reading this I'm assuming you're looking for a therapist. I hate to break it to you, but the "perfect" therapist doesn't exist. However, we could build a therapeutic relationship together that is the perfect solution to the reasons you're looking for a therapist. You might be feeling anxious, depressed, or scared - but you're also feeling ready for change. Try a free consultation with me and let's see if we'd make a good team to tackle some of those worries together.

Relationships are rarely without issue despite loving one another. We become confused about how relating became so difficult! Concerns become overwhelming resulting in deep hurt, uncertainty and distancing. In fact 80% of divorce is the result of emotional disconnect, and only 40% is due to high conflict. Neither have to happen. It is possible to have better, healthier, loving relationships! I work with you to help you both understand and use tools for your disconnects, strengths, triggers, and communication breakdowns. Relating is a learned process. We can learn to turn toward, not against or away from one another and enjoy again!

OFFERING EVENING AND WEEKEND SESSIONS! I am a registered psychologist who has been working in the helping field for over twenty years. While much of this work has focused on supporting at risk youth and adults experiencing or engaging in intimate partner violence, in recent years I have built a clinical practice that includes counselling adults, teenagers, and families with various combinations of mental health, behavioural, addiction, trauma and relational issues. Along with adults, I especially enjoy working with teens, families, and people who don't like counsellors.
