I strive to bring compassion, humour, safety, respect and acceptance to the therapeutic process. Together, we will work to learn new effective coping skills, build on current strengths, take on new challenges that are in alignment with your personal values and goals and heal from past painful experiences.

I specialize in offering treatment informed by Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART).
I am passionate about helping people whose emotions have been in the driver's seat for too long, whether that be anxiety, shame, stress, or one of countless others. I work with individuals who identify as highly sensitive, those who struggle with anxiety and depression, and those who have been impacted by traumatic events in their lives. I emphasize learning and integrating skills to forge a healthy relationship with our emotions, something we have not all had the opportunity to develop. I love talking to people, hearing their story, and working together to balance acceptance of who we are with change that is meaningful and lasting.

In a safe and confidential environment, I specialize in treating symptoms related to trauma, anxiety, stress, and/or relationships concerns ; using best practice techniques that include EMDR, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), as well as Mindfulness and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT).
Life can be unexpected and hard. Just as we experience physical injury, we can also experience life circumstances that impact our mental health. On-going stress, past experiences, or challenging situations (e.g. pandemic, loss, increasing job demands, isolation, ect.), can have an enormous impact on our well-being, causing both emotional and physical distress. Using a practical and evidence-based approach, I work with clients to effectively reduce symptoms of stress, anxiety, or trauma; to navigate challenging experiences, and promote lasting and desired change in health and life.

I draw from a number of therapeutic modalities that include CBT, DBT, narrative therapy, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and behavioura activation.
Over the years I have had the honour of witnessing the change that people make when they engage in various forms of therapy and can attest to the incredible amount of strength and personal knowledge people bring to this process. Life often presents us with unexpected challenges that can feel overwhelming and insurmountable. Life transitions, stress, depression and anxiety can negatively impact our coping and confidence. These difficulties often become the dominant story in people’s lives and get in the way of engaging in life in the ways that they want.

Types of treatment I draw on include Internal Family Systems, somatics, mindfulness, DBT, CBT, Gottman Couple's Therapy and others.
Are long term difficulties due to complex and traumatic experiences (often from childhood) making life challenging for you and/or your relationships? Is there an unexplored grief that accompanies these experiences? Do you struggle with anxiety, depression. PTSD, personality disorder (eg., BDP), chronic pain/illness or have dissociation? To add to this complexity are you neurodiverse (eg., ADHD, autism, gifted) or suspect you are? If you answered yes to one or more of these questions you are like many of my clients. I offer individual and couples counselling and formal adult psychoeducational, neurodiversity and trauma assessments.

My passion is helping children and adolescents to feel better understood, and to have the skills and confidence to better manage their external (e.g., friendships, school performance) and internal (e.g., emotions, urges) worlds. Using gold-standard psychological assessment tools, I can provide clarity around diagnostic questions including ASD, ADHD, intellectual disabilities, and learning disorders in order to make recommendations that will benefit a child going forward. With respect to therapy, I use evidence-based modalities including CBT, DBT skills, and ACT to help youth manage big feelings and function more effectively.

I trust that every person is the expert of their own life and experiences. I hold the belief that everyone has what they need, within themselves, to heal, and I enjoy walking alongside to support folks in accessing these strengths and resources. I strive to establish trusting and collaborative relationships that create a safe space for exploration and growth. I work from a person-centered and trauma-informed lens, while integrating a variety of modalities including Internal Family Systems, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), somatic and mindfulness-based interventions, ACT and DBT.

I work from an integrative approach pulling from CBT, DBT, Solution Focused Therapy, Accelerated Resolution Therapy, and Gottman Method Couples Therapy.
We all experience challenges in life and can benefit from some extra support. The process to begin therapy can be daunting, but I strive to offer a warm and welcoming environment. I like to work with various personal challenges such as anxiety, ADHD, stress, self-esteem issues, relationship challenges, and trauma processing. I believe in working from a collaborative approach, where we work together to reach your goals. It is important to me to offer a place where we can build a solid connection and create a supportive and non-judgmental space to explore your inner conflicts, challenges, and/or relationship difficulties.

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behaviour and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behaviour, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioural change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behaviour; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
