Some of my expertise involves working with trauma, anger problems, depression and anxiety.
People have different needs in therapy - some want to be heard and make sense of their experiences, while others want to learn new skills to navigate problems. We can meet to process difficult experiences, cope with uncomfortable thoughts and feelings, or change something about your behaviour.

I specialize in helping teens and adults struggling with issues around anger management, relationship issues, addictions or depression to develop greater self-awareness and self-compassion, and feel more connected with themselves and others.
Are you struggling to break your bad habits and keep healthy relationships? Maybe you're repeating unhelpful behaviors no matter how hard you try to change. Are you dealing with the consequences of impulsive decisions, losing control, or substance use? Often, these actions are the ways you learned to cope with the stresses of life to protect yourself or overcome challenges during difficult periods. When these coping mechanisms show up in life and relationships, they frequently contribute to conflict and pain. I help individual and couples better understand themselves and make lasting change with solo or marriage counselling.

I am deeply passionate about helping clients who are struggling with regulating difficult emotions ( anger, anxiety, sadness), symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder, and dealing with aftermath of traumatic stressors. At times, we need an objective compassionate outside perspective to help us go through challenging circumstances and I strive to provide this to all my clients. I work with clients to set realistic and attainable goals in areas they wish to work on as well as process emotions that are bubbling up and getting in the way of pursuing value directions.

Do you feel like your emotions are controlling your life? Are you struggling with explosive anger that erupts without warning, leaving you feeling guilty and ashamed? Or perhaps you're grappling with paralyzing anxiety that keeps you awake at night, your mind racing with worst-case scenarios? Maybe it's relentless stress that's wearing you down, making even simple tasks feel overwhelming? You've tried to cope, but the problem keeps resurfacing, damaging your relationships, career, or inner peace. You're exhausted from the constant battle, and deep down, you know this isn't the life you want.

Therapy, at its most basic, is 'talking.' You're likely reading these profiles to suss out who a good person is to talk to . If it helps, here is what experience has taught me: We are each unique. Our problems are equally unique. But all problems seem to grow from one common root: disconnection. Disconnection can be felt in many ways: fear, sadness, emptiness, pain, and anger. Troubled feelings such as these can lead to troubled responses, including but not limited to: avoidance, procrastination, addiction, disordered eating, relationship conflict, violence, self-harm and suicide.

You're overwhelmed and second-guessing everything. Often you feel like a failure and an imposter and wonder how you got here. Some days you’re the man you want to be, and others, you’re barely holding it all together. There are days when you feel lost, hopeless, and lacking direction. Stress, anxiety, fear, anger, and even depression are negatively impacting your relationships, your work, and your sense of confidence. You want so much more from your life but are not sure how to get there.

Grief, anger issues and addictions are often part of the focus of counselling, as well.
Although it can feel that things never change, resolution of a problem can take place when we learn even one new idea. I help my clients learn what is getting them stuck and the steps to get them unstuck. EMDR can be used to facilitate this process. My style is collaborative, compassionate and direct. I enjoy being a part of the solution for which clients have been searching, often for a long time.

I work in many areas of mental health, but specifically in the areas of managing life’s stresses, anxiety/depression, anger, grief & loss, as well as addictions.
I think everyone should have a therapist. I realize how self-serving that sounds, but if we see a medical doctor on a regular basis (yes, you should do that too!) for our physical health, why wouldn’t we have someone in our pocket for mental health as well? If there is a stigma around mental health, there is stigma of having a therapist as well. I regularly meet with people that have never accessed a mental health professional and after one session you can see the anxiety leave them as I help take away those social pressures and instead focus on you, that’s what I want, to be team YOU!

Anger Management Counsellors

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
