Over the years I have had the honour of witnessing the change that people make when they engage in various forms of therapy and can attest to the incredible amount of strength and personal knowledge people bring to this process. Life often presents us with unexpected challenges that can feel overwhelming and insurmountable. Life transitions, stress, depression and anxiety can negatively impact our coping and confidence. These difficulties often become the dominant story in people’s lives and get in the way of engaging in life in the ways that they want.

As human beings we face a variety of personal challenges. I agree with Historian and Musician Bernice Johnson Reagon who said, "Life's challenges are not supposed to paralyze you, they're supposed to help you discover who you are". It is my goal to always approach my clients in a non-judgemental, supportive manner. I will assist you in shifting self-defeating behaviors and thoughts through psycho-education, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and mindfulness practice. This will enable clients to learn new ways of addressing the issues they encounter and begin to understand themselves more deeply on their journey of healing and growth.

Counselling serves a million purposes- each as unique as the client who shows up to session. It doesn’t matter what it is to anyone else. What matters to me is what you need it to be for you. As your counsellor, I am here to support you in figuring out what you want and how to get it. The work we do together is only meaningful if it translates into your every day experiences. I will help and encourage you as you gain clarity into who you are and what needs to change for you to have a life you don’t want to escape from.

I think everyone should have a therapist. I realize how self-serving that sounds, but if we see a medical doctor on a regular basis (yes, you should do that too!) for our physical health, why wouldn’t we have someone in our pocket for mental health as well? If there is a stigma around mental health, there is stigma of having a therapist as well. I regularly meet with people that have never accessed a mental health professional and after one session you can see the anxiety leave them as I help take away those social pressures and instead focus on you, that’s what I want, to be team YOU!

I really love to laugh and have fun; I believe that laughing until your belly hurts can be the best antidote to almost anything, especially hard things and my experience over the last 20 years has shown me that this is true. I am proud of the work that I do and proud that clients tell me I am unlike other therapists; they describe me as a real person that cares a lot about the people I work with. I've provided therapy with a range of difficulties and at all stages of life. My goal is to take the time to help you to resolve whatever difficulties you are struggling with so that you can get on with the rest of your life.

My practices evolved over time, but always followed through the line of trauma. I work with kids as young as four up until whatever age they want to continue therapy. I am fortunate enough to have a very formative experience in EMDR, IFS, IFIO, and Clinical Hypnosis to address the needs of my clients. As a psychologist, I believe that to have good mental health, the individual must be treated as the whole person. So, I integrate the mind and body into my practice to help my clients to overcome depression, anxiety, grief, stress, mood disorders, and PTSD. I also proudly offer NeurOptimal Neurofeedback for brain training.

My specialty is Human Sexuality. I'm a Certified Sex Therapist, Psychotherapist and am a mostly retired, formerly Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). I have 50+ years experience. I was trained, mentored and supervised by Dr. Wardell Pomeroy of the Kinsey Institute. I help my patients achieve their greatest sexual and relationship potential, beyond diagnosis and treatment of their concerns, to reach the most exciting levels of an intimate relationship. I see many patients online. It is efficient and effective, and it permits the intimacy and immediacy of an in-office consultation, from the comfort of your home or office.

It takes courage to seek help, so I commend you for taking this first step. Although therapy can seem intimidating, I view it as just like any other health service, such as the dentist or chiropractor. Just like how we visit the dentist if we have severe tooth pain or need a routine cleaning, I am here for both your traumatic experiences as well as maintenance sessions. No issue is too small when working with me and my practice, Arcadia Counselling. No one is meant to struggle alone, which is where I come in. Therapy looks different for everyone whether that is a place to unload, learn techniques, or improve your quality of life.

I have experience with a variety of client challenges including anxiety, addiction, complex trauma, depression, ADD/ADHD, learning disabilities, grief, etc. I have a strong interest in Interpersonal Neurobiology (the brain’s ability to rewire itself when offered corrective emotional experiences) and Sensorimotor Therapy, which rests under the assumption that trauma or attachment disruption is stored in the body. In addition, I have recently started using EMDR in my therapeutic practice with children and adults.
