Couples Counselling Therapists in Beltline, Calgary, AB
I am a Registered Psychologist, and I work with adults and youth interested in individual, couples and family therapy by helping them clarify their challenges and set achievable goals.
People are wonderfully complex beings. It is rare that our suffering and/or distress comes from only one funnel or area of life (although that sometimes is the case!). This is why I believe in taking a holistic approach to therapy. The consideration of nutrition, personal purpose and beliefs, sleep, physical exercise, and social connections can make a huge difference when designing a treatment plan. You are the expert of your own life. My job is to ask meaningful questions, to collect and synthesize information, and work closely with you to design your treatment journey. Let's get started!

Sometimes, to have better relationships with others, we also need to examine our relationship with our 'self'.
I am a Registered Provisional Psychologist whose work centers around strengthening relationships and connections. After working with children, teens, and families for 10+ years, I’ve come to learn that relationship improvement can be an antidote to stress. For couples and families, strengthening relationships might mean working on being more open with one another, learning to share and listen effectively, knowing when and how to set boundaries, and how to respond in difficult situations.

I enjoy working with individuals, couples, and families, particularly with parents and children from intact and separated families to help them strengthen parent-child and co-parenting relationships.
Listening to clients and providing a respectful environment where it is safe to explore life's challenges is the first step. Each of us has strengths. I respect the expertise you have in your own life, encourage you to look at things differently and guide you to discover your own inner wisdom to help you create solutions that work for you. My clients include individuals, couples and families struggling with relationship breakdown, separation/divorce, parent-child problems, employment issues, anxiety, depression or trauma. I have specialized training in mediation, parenting coordination, parenting assessments and EMDR for working with trauma.

Accepting new clients...Have you reached your limit in pain/stress/worry? Are you growing more concerned about your relationship with alcohol and/or drugs? Or are you worried about the alcohol or drug use of someone you love and you aren't sure what you are 'supposed' to do or not do. Are you starting to realize that maybe you "don't got this", and that you need some help? Patterns of unhealthy or unhelpful behaviours developed over time CAN be changed; coping with trauma and anxiety IS possible. This can be a tough and confusing time, but reaching out for help indicates that you have hope...now it's time to build on that hope.

As a generalist, I support children, adults, couples, and families with a wide range of presenting concerns.
It takes courage to seek help, so I commend you for taking this first step. Although therapy can seem intimidating, I view it as just like any other health service, such as the dentist or chiropractor. Just like how we visit the dentist if we have severe tooth pain or need a routine cleaning, I am here for both your traumatic experiences as well as maintenance sessions. No issue is too small when working with me and my practice, Arcadia Counselling. No one is meant to struggle alone, which is where I come in. Therapy looks different for everyone whether that is a place to unload, learn techniques, or improve your quality of life.

I have the privilege of working with individuals, couples and families navigating the challenges they are facing such as anxiety, depression, parenting stress, grief, infertility, and significant life transitions.
At times life can become complicated by stress and adversity which is difficult to navigate on our own. My counselling philosophy is grounded in the knowledge that everyone has strengths and resources that can help them thrive and all of us need genuine caring relationships to live our best lives. Unfortunately, the challenges in our lives can cause us to lose sight of our strengths and strain key relationships leaving us feeling lost, confused and overwhelmed. At these times, counselling can help to explore these thoughts and feelings, identify meaningful solutions and restore hope and overall resilience.

Do you struggle with depression, grief, or a challenging relationship that affects your day-to-day life? Do you feel overwhelmed, exhausted, frustrated, and lost by the thought that there is no light at the end of the tunnel? Do you wonder and hope that life could be better? Now, more than ever, most people feel anxious, uncertain, and overwhelmed about finding the motivation or strength to move past daily challenges. Pushing away your needs and not taking time for yourself can lead to long-term issues for your mind and body. I believe it shouldn’t be so hard to live a better life.

Couples Counselling
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
