Areas of specialty include life transitions (separation, divorce), grief and loss, anxiety, and care-giver support (parenting, caring for elderly parents, or partners with dementia, etc.
Are you feeling stuck and having a hard time seeing your way forward? A change in your life can leave you feeling hopeless, empty, confused, or lost. Finding yourself in a new role, or a new phase of life (being a student, living on your own for the first time, finding yourself as a caregiver), ending a relationship, or loosing a loved one, may throw you on a path that you didn’t expect and have a hard time navigating. Right now, you can't see your way forward, but you want to find a way through the weeds so you don't feel so bogged down and overwhelmed.
Group therapy provides a place where you come together with others to share problems or concerns, to better understand your own situation, and to learn from and with each other. You will learn about yourself and improve your relationships with other people. You will gain self-understanding and skills for dealing with your concerns. In a typical 90 minute session, members work to express their own challenges and aspirations, feelings, ideas, and reactions as freely and honestly as possible. Members learn not only to understand themselves and their own issues but also become therapeutic helpers for other group members.

I offer a warm, creative, down-to-earth approach that is client-focused and collaborative. I work from a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive framework. I believe in bringing light and air to the parts of ourselves that need time and space to emerge. In our increasingly fragmented world filled with smart phones and twitter feeds, we could all use some good old-fashioned connection. I bring a deep curiousity about the ways we move through the world, the stories we tell ourselves and how our relationships are affected.
Forming a new group please contact me if interested. A process oriented interpersonal group where you can connect more deeply with yourself and others, gain insight and practice new skills in a warm and supportive environment. Includes guided meditation.

What do I really want? and--how am I going about NOT getting it?
These simple questions stand at the gateway of personal freedom.
Overwork, addiction, anxiety, depression tell us that we have turned away from life's important questions.
Therapy can help. More than just relieving symptoms, good therapy allows us--with time and courage--to see our problems as opportunities, and to discover what's really important--living life with a sense of freedom and possibility.

Are you feeling stuck or lost in life? Maybe you are seeking support around how to manage big feelings, difficult memories, or anxious thoughts that are impacting your mood, getting in the way of the things you want to do in life, and straining your relationships (or leaving you feeling isolated). Perhaps you know that something needs to change but you don't know where to start. The good news is that you don't need to know, together we can get you there. I have over 10 years of experience supporting individuals through healing their past wounds, rediscovering their power, and building a meaningful and joyful life.
Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, Interpersonal Effectiveness and Mindfulness skills are taught in the 24-week group. Why would we spend time to learn about skills we may not use? Think of it like cooking. If we only know how to make eggs that may work for some time. If we are hosting someone who doesn't eat eggs, we may need to read some recipe's and practice making other meals before they come over. That's like skills group! We are giving you the recipe for the skills so you can practice and see which ones work for you!

Anxiety Support Groups
What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
