I work with clients around anxiety, depression, grief and loss, anger management, self-esteem issues, stress management, marital distress and communication concerns, as well as emotional regulation, mindfulness skills training, distress tolerance, and trauma.
I am a Registered Psychologist with a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of Alberta. My approach to therapy emphasizes the importance of confronting our painful emotions and experiences from a place of safety, curiosity, and honesty. I work with individuals and couples as well as teens and youth. I also have a special interest in working with men. I believe that men are often under resourced when it comes to accessing, expressing, and understanding their emotions, often leading to painful, yet avoidable, experiences.

Anger management done different! Rather than just shutting down and "managing" anger, this group will explore anger as a helpful tool to identify injustice and challenges in your life. When understood correctly, the energy and power can be harnessed into healthy conflict to resolve issues in relationships and life circumstances. Let me show you how anger can lead to positive change, fights can be good for your relationships, and that addiction recovery is about finding ways to feel better rather than being broken.
Feeling distant from your spouse? Fighting with your teen? Struggling with anger, anxiety, depression, or addiction? Experienced trauma? I work with a variety of clients, but particularly enjoy problems in which clients that have felt misunderstood or mistreated. This includes working with adolescents, parent-teen conflict, relationship difficulties in both individuals and couples, addictions, anger or anxiety management, trauma, and Borderline Personality Disorder. In many of the clients I see, fear and confusion are often barriers to a satisfying life. Healing often comes through gaining confidence in areas one can control.

Our clients struggle with personal and marital issues such as depression, anxiety, addiction and abuse. They are worried about familial disruption and impact, especially when concerning their children. Some of the major stressors are mental illness, financial, divorce, family conflict, and child behavioural issues. Some fear to seek help, due to repercussions from family members and fear of losing their children. Most people we work with, want to protect and keep their family intact. They also want to ease their pain and lead a happier life. They want to gain support without adding additional stressor to themselves or their family.

You’re exhausted all the time, but struggle to sleep. You try to relax but it never works and you end up snapping at family/friends. No motivation which leads to procrastination. “What’s wrong with me?” you might ask yourself. "I don’t even feel like myself anymore". Dreading to go to work. Even hobbies or hanging out with friends doesn't bring much joy. Everything just seems so draining! You feel overwhelmed, not good enough, and irritable. Feeling lost and stuck because nothing you try seems to work. You want someone that "gets it" and can help you generate some practical solutions for your relationships, work, and life.

Anger Management Support Groups

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
