I also have my own journey through loss and healing which has given me an exquisite understanding of the complexities of grief.
My work with people is rooted in the belief that we all have the strength and wisdom within ourselves to make the changes we wish to see. Within the context of a safe and meaningful therapeutic relationship, new ways of being can emerge. Living more fully aligned with our values and increasing our awareness of unhelpful patterns can allow us to live a more meaningful, vibrant, and joyful life. By working collaboratively with you at your own pace, I can support you in expanding your self-awareness and changing the maladaptive beliefs or behaviours that are getting in the way of living the full and rich life that you imagine.

Grief is the normal and natural reaction to loss of any kind. Those who identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous or People of Colour) may experience additional situations that can lead to grief, such as direct and indirect experiences with racism and discrimination, or leaving your home country behind to immigrate to Canada. It is important for BIPOC folks to have a safe space to gather and connect, process their grief, and be seen and heard in a group that makes them feel represented. Our group will run September 14 - November 2, 2022.

Grief is a deeply painful, lonely, and isolating experience. When someone we care about dies, our relationship ends in divorce, or we experience any of the other 40 forms of loss, we often feel unprepared and ill-equipped to deal with our emotions. The wonderful news is, grief does not have to be a life sentence of suffering. There are actionable tools that can help you to move beyond the pain caused by a loss in your life. Whether you are grieving due to a recent loss or a loss from long ago, it is never too soon or too late to heal your heart.

Grieving a loss can be painful, but you don’t have to go through it on your own. We’re here to help you process your loss through mindfulness activities like drawing, painting, colouring, and more. In this therapeutic support group, you can also talk about your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours associated with the loss of a loved one by death, separation, and even pet loss. You don't need any art experience to join; just your willingness to be present is enough. Visit our website to see the next group session dates.

I believe that every person has worth and value and that we are created for connection and relationship - relationship with ourselves, others, and the Divine. BUT - life can be hard and we can lose our way on all three levels. When we are relationally out of sink we tend to repeat old coping patterns that no longer serve us well. Healing comes when we take the "filter off" and courageously find our voice in a brave - safe space. We talk, we listen, we process and we heal. I have been in those places and know that change happens.

This is a group to help families find peace, harmony and love and discovering meaning. How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
