Shane O’Mara, D.Phil., is Professor of Experimental Brain Research at Trinity College, Dublin, a Principal Investigator in the Trinity College Institute of Neuroscience, and a member of the academic staff of the School of Psychology. He was the first recipient in Ireland of the Wellcome Trust Senior Investigator Award, which supports "exceptional, world-class researchers, who already hold a recognized academic position and whose research will address the most important questions about health and disease.” His research interests focus on the brain systems supporting learning, memory, cognition and decision making; those affected by stress, anxiety, depression and motivation; and the application of behavioral and brain sciences to public policy and organizations. He has published more than 130 peer-reviewed papers in these and related areas. He is the author of several books, and has edited several academic books. He is a graduate of NUI Galway (BA, MA) and University of Oxford (D.Phil.), a Fellow of Trinity College, Dublin, the first Ireland-based elected Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science, and an elected a Member of the Royal Irish Academy.
