Jo-Ann Finkelstein, Ph.D., is a writer and clinical psychologist living in Chicago. She has a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Northwestern University and a Masters in human development and psychology from Harvard University. Her book about raising girls in a still-sexist world will be published September, 2024 (Penguin Random House).

You can find her musings in her Substack newsletter, DrJoWrites. Her writing also appears in Ms. Magazine, Your Teen Magazine, TheFeministParent.com, and in top academic journals in her field. She has presented at conferences worldwide including the American Psychological Association Conference. Most recently, she gave a national webinar on adolescent suicidality to the National Association for College Admission Counseling. A passionate advocate for social justice, Dr. Finkelstein serves on the Stop Sexual Assault in Schools advisory board and has served on the boards of the Chicago chapter of the National Organization for Women, Pediatric AIDS Chicago, and The Women’s Supported Housing and Empowerment Project. She has volunteered for Planned Parenthood PAC and was an organizer for the Chicago Women’s March. She is a current member of the Psychotherapy Action Network (PsiAn) and the Chicago Center for Psychoanalysis (CCP).
