Daniel S. Lobel, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist in private practice in Katonah, New York. He has been in practice for over 25 years. He treats couples, individuals, and families. In addition to psychotherapy, he conducts clinical and forensic evaluations and consults with attorneys and justices on matters involving mental illness and law. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in the Department of Psychiatry and has lectured at Hofstra Law School. He has published research in both clinical and forensic psychology journals and he lectures around the United States to both clinical and forensic audiences. He also has authored chapters in several textbooks in this field.

Dr. Lobel grew up in the Bronx in New York City. He completed his B.A. at Vassar College and received his M.A. and Ph.D. from the New School for Social Research. He is retired from a 13-year career of working at the Veteran’s Affairs Hospitals and doing research under the auspices of Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He also received training at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in neuropsychological assessment. Following his tenure with the veterans, he was the Chief Psychologist of the Learning Disability Evaluation Unit at the New York State College of Optometry (2001-2005).

More recently, he has been focusing on working with families that suffer from Personality Disorder. In 2014 and 2015 he wrote six guest blogs for Psychology Today which continue to be widely read and cited. He has done several podcasts on this topic as well. In 2017 he released his first book: When Your Daughter Has BPD: Essential Skills to Help Families Manage Borderline Personality Disorder. In 2019 he published his second book: When Your Mother Has Borderline Personality Disorder: A Guide for Adult Children.
