The Message of Covid-19

Inside the losses of the last two years is a message—if we are listening

Key points

  • We are connected to the natural world—and to each other.
  • We keep ourselves safe by keeping others safe.
  • Covid-19 preys on our dysfunctional constructs of difference and illuminates a path forward.
  • We have choice—don't be a virus on the planet.

Covid-19 has been a heavy burden for two years and has inflicted great losses on the world, including having taken nearly six million lives. Despite our best scientific efforts, Covid-19 doesn’t seem to be going away any time soon.

Perhaps, Covid-19 isn’t going to go away until we listen to its message. What can we hear if we listen to Covid-19?

“You are inextricably connected to the natural world, as you are from and of the natural world. You are not the superior of nature, and nature is powerful.

"Even the smallest of life forms can dominate and wreak havoc on your species. To think you can control and are more important than the natural world is simply denial and hubris.

"In addition, you are connected to each other, your species, your tribe. I have demonstrated the unprejudiced and nondiscriminatory truth that you are all the same. No border, no boundary, no country, no color, no race, no religion, no political party or any other preference is a reality in my world, the natural world. Open your eyes and destroy these constructs or I’ll replicate and populate the globe, and destroy you.

"No human is safe until all humans are safe. As long as one human is susceptible you all remain susceptible. I’ll find you. As long as I have a viable vector for replication and transmission, you all remain at risk. To protect yourselves you have to protect everyone else.

"I thrive on your selfishness, competition, corruption and conflict. This leads to spiritual, environmental, social, financial, emotional, and physical illness and disease, which is where you’ll find me. You have failed to see that what is terrifying to me is selflessness, connection, cooperation, and adaptation.

"Your therapeutics are but a speed bump on the human highway of despair and suffering that I am traveling. There remains plenty for me here, and I am not planning on leaving soon—but it is your choice.”

Messages come in odd ways, and sometimes our eyes are kept from recognizing them. This is a dour and dire message for humans, especially during the holiday season—but what a gift and a blessing to have a path to healing, health, and wellness illuminated for us.

“Open your eyes: You are connected, so take care of each other as if they are you—because they are!”

Stay Safe and Stay Tuned, and Happy Holidays!
