My areas of interests include; mens mental health, perfor mance psychology, depression, anxiety, stress-reduction, life transitions, cognitive, ADHD, and Autism assessments.
I’m a generally registered psychologist who’s friendly nature and client-centred approach to therapy allow clients to feel supported, heard, and understood. I provide a safe collaborative space for clients to explore their unique challenges using evidenced based practices. I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship based on empathy and trust underpins meaningful and lasting change. I also understand that reaching out for support is the first step but it’s often the most difficult.

I help people in relationship distress of many kinds. I also help those beset by the fundamental conflicts of life, whether it comes in the form of self doubt, a sense of isolation or a sense of meaninglessness and a lack of direction. Sometimes the tragedies of life just mount up and it can seem overwhelming. It helps to have some very direct insight and guidance at these times. With couples I help establish respect, safety and trust and a sense of belief in the relationship so that we can work on areas of conflict.

Despite the great tools and opportunities that we have access to in the world of today, I fully understand the challenges that we face in an ever-evolving society and try to assist clients in overcoming issues from the past, becoming more comfortable with the present, and creating an exciting adventure for the future. I place significant emphasis on the therapeutic relationship and try to create a therapy space which feels safe, offers room for the client to explore possibilities, and feels unique and tailored to the client's individual needs.

I work with adults, adolescents and children using many strategies.
Fear of the unknown is very common and is probably why most people are reluctant to start therapy. If you are struggling with feeling overwhelmed, worried for the future or feeling down and depressed then I encourage you to take the step to find a therapist that you click with. Using strategies that we know works is important, but it is also known that the relationship with your therapist is the most important thing in helping you to move forward. I work with many members of the community, and am especially equipped to work with LGBTIQA+ clients. I also have a lot of experience working with trauma.

I specialise in ADHD Assessment and therapeutic intervention. I am a general psychologist and a sport's tragic, with a passion for Australian cricket and for the St. George-Illawarra Dragons NRL team. My work focuses on diagnostic assessment and treatment for neurodevelopmental conditions such as ADHD and Autism in school-aged children, teens, and adults. My assessments are not only informed by interviews but also by testing that makes comparisons with people of similar age and gender to help inform whether the behaviours represent "full" ADHD, autism, only traits of the condition, or are masking other areas of concern.

I believe it is important to work with clients - not dictate to them. My preferred treatment method is to focus on the areas that you want to work on. I believe a partnership not a prescription is important. Sticking to values means more than putting them on a website - it means actually living them. I am genuine, open and also have a sense of humour (though it is twisted/cynical/dark). I work best when clients feel comfortable, if that means we swear a lot in session - I am happy to make that sacrifice! I work clients across many areas from complex trauma, relationship issues, anxiety, depression and workplace issues.

Men often face societal pressures to be strong, stoic, and self-reliant, which can impact their mental health and make it hard to express emotions, seek help, or manage stress, anxiety, and depression. These challenges are amplified when men feel disconnected from their true selves, including their natural strengths and emotions. Furthermore, it's vital for adolescent males to explore their development openly, guided by trusted male role models who help them navigate expectations and embrace a flexible, authentic identity. We offer specialised support to empower men to build a well-rounded sense of self.

Male Counsellors

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
