Complex trauma at any age can make understanding ourselves, our reactions, painful emotions, and relationships mystifying. I'm registered with Blue Knot Foundation as a trauma informed therapist. If you have anxiety or depression symptoms, anger or hurt, I have been working beside people who want to manage and reduce these issues since the 20th century. I'll do my best to give you tools to use right from your first visit. If you are in a remote area I can provide sessions via Signal/Skype/Zoom. I know a lot about family and domestic violence and how people can come back from what happened to them or even what they did to others.

Finding the right psychologist can be a daunting task. How do you know if you have found the right one? Will you feel comfortable with them? Will they know how to treat you? I specialise in ADHD Assessment and therapeutic intervention. I am a general psychologist and a sport's tragic, with a passion for Australian cricket and for the St. George-Illawarra Dragons NRL team. My work focuses on diagnostic assessment and treatment for neurodevelopmental conditions such as ADHD and Autism in school-aged children, teens, and adults. My assessments are not only informed by interviews but also by testing that makes comparisons with people of similar age and gender to help inform whether the behaviours represent "full" ADHD, autism, only traits of the condition, or are masking other areas of concern.

While it's natural to engage in pleasurable activities & behaviours, when that engagement becomes compulsive, overwhelming, and out-of-control, the negative consequences can become destructive & unmanageable, especially when addicted to Sex & Porn. We sometimes adopt these behaviours as a means of gaining momentary relief from any pain, anxiety, or trauma that exists in our lives, but regularly feel intense shame and despair after acting out sexually. Then, shame & isolation serve to maintain the addictive cycle, as the problem becomes more complex & often impacts our intimate partner. Don't despair: Help and recovery is available!

Jay works with adults to overcome traumatic stress. Emerging trauma literature suggests that traumatic stress underpins most mental health diagnoses, including depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar, and borderline personality. Those living with traumatic stress typically feel numb, disconnected, afraid, alone, empty, and unsafe. They are often confused about why they feel bad and frequently ask, “what's wrong with me?” They can be disconnected from themselves, their loved ones, or the world around them, and they often have an addiction they use to reduce their pain. Ultimately, they want to feel safe, but this can feel unobtainable.

Hi, I’m Nick. Our life is a big journey, and we all experience difficulty at times. I understand there are times where you may feel stuck, confused, misunderstood, mistreated or overwhelmed, like your cycling in repeating patterns, or feel dependent on unsupportive habits to cope that seem impossible to break free from or change. If this sounds somehow familiar I’d really appreciate hearing from you and would appreciate the opportunity to say how I could support you to ease the pressure, feel more in control and move towards a deeper level of self-alignment and well-being.

I am dedicated to creating a safe space for clients free from judgement. I believe it is important that each person feels heard, understood and supported during their therapeutic journey, and I endeavour to make this a reality. I also take time in the first session to establish goals and discuss expectations of therapy. Working from a client-centred approach means it is important to me that clients can select the focus of sessions at a pace that is right for them. This often involves collaboration in order to work through issues, discerning underlying difficulties for sustained change, finding meaning, or enhancing strengths.

Life is full of adversity. This can sometimes leave us feeling anxious, lost, alone and unsure of how to move forward. These feelings can be overwhelming and cause us to turn inward. However, this only further compounds the problem.

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
