I am professionally trained in Psychology, Women’s Studies, Gestalt Psychotherapy and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy for Trauma.
I specialise in working with women and LGBTQI+ folk who are wanting support with trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and body image concerns. Many of my clients experience stigma and micro-aggressions on a daily basis. Some of the main reasons people choose to see me are because they struggle with feeling 'not good enough', or they have difficulty coping with overwhelming emotions, or they are struggling in a world that doesn't seem to accept them. Some of my clients feel disconnected from themselves and are wanting support to work out who they are. Most of my clients would like to feel safer.

I am a professional Arts Therapist with a lived experience of religious abuse and cult abuse. I understand the immense difficulty of trying to navigate changing your entire life paradigm and at the same time deal with the trauma it has caused. I understand that it is something most people cannot understand unless they have come from the same world. I am passionate about walking beside others who want to find their way out of similar situations. There are so many of us. Time to come out of that dark room into the light. I am particularly passionate about people finding freedom in their sexuality, in all it's wondrous varied forms.

I typically work with people who lead full and busy lives who often feel burnt out and exhausted, looking to find a way back to flourishing and wellbeing. I also work with people who are going through relationship challenges of all shapes and sizes, and people who wish to break free from old, limiting childhood patterns that keep showing up to hinder their full potential. My hope is that clients who work with me are reconnected to their deepest sense of who they are, to their strengths, gifts, and their capacity to love themselves and their lives. I work with individuals and couples.

I am a practiced counsellor, with a specialised interest in attachment trauma. The way our early life experiences create a blueprint for our relationships that may no longer be serving us in our adult circumstance. Unresolved attachment trauma can cause us to repeat the same painful relationship patterns until we go back to the source and heal the original wounding. My job is to build a comfortable and safe space for you to explore any issues that may be holding you back from creating the life and connections you long for in all your relationships, especially the one with yourself.

As a psychologist (and a woman who struggled with conflict avoidance and people pleasing) I know this is essentially about mastering a handful of skills and understanding a few fundamentals about being human; assertive communication, calming big emotions, learning to listen to and act on your intuition, and befriending yourself and all your parts.
Women who struggle to trust their feelings, avoid conflict (translates as abandoning your self) and struggle to include themselves in their own lives, are women I love to support. These challenges absolutely impact your relationships, work, parenting and self confidence. Perhaps you find it impossible to take up space in your life and family? You are over stretched, exhausted (or anxious) and can't say no. Perhaps you are waiting for someone to tell you your emotions are reasonable, and you want someone to give you permission to want what you want? You certainly want to be less at the whim of the world and your big feelings.

I see a diverse range of clients from 12 years and above. While some clients come for specific treatment of a pre-existing mental health disorder, many find themselves seeking treatment for depressive feelings, significant overwhelm (physical and/or emotional), difficulty sleeping, or a general lack of coping strategies for whatever life is throwing at them. While mental health awareness has seen a major push in recent times, I find most clients just want somewhere they can feel heard. Without any judgment or fear, just heard. Through this, clients often rediscover a connection and sense safeness within.

Many people today find themselves feeling out of place and disconnected, struggling to cope with the demands of an ever-changing society and it's expectations. It’s common to feel uncertain about what we want, the decisions we make, or even who we are. The lack of community or connection with people or places can lead to feelings of loneliness, depression, anxiety, stress, or numbness. Developing a sense of purpose in life, beyond academia, family, or career, can bring about profound changes. Discovering what brings you joy, tranquility, and balance can allow you to find the answers you seek and attain the fulfillment you desire.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
