I love working with people who are ready to dive deep. I find the best work happens when people are ready to reflect and take some risks, opening themselves to new experiences and possibilities. People are ready to try new approaches to old problems in a non clinical environment. They want to feel freer to be themselves, gain clarity and have closer more satisfying relationships with loved ones. Often I work with students of psychology/counselling/play therapy/art therapy who are interested in doing their own wok before becoming therapists. I also work a lot with couples and individuals in life transitions, especially parenthood.

Please note I have opened a new clinic day (Thursdays) so I have immediate availability. Hi! I am Elise and I have been practicing as a psychologist for over 13 years. I understand that feeling connected with a mental health professional is so important to help make changes and I love creating an environment that supports this. I will go with you at your pace, and help guide you to change patterns or areas you feel stuck. I like to use EMDR so we can understand and challenge patterns much quicker than through talking alone. I will be right there with you every step of the way!

As a dedicated provisional psychologist, I often find myself envisioning my ideal client—a person who is bravely navigating the complex landscape of their own mind and emotions. This individual may be struggling with a range of issues, from anxiety and depression to stress-related challenges. Their needs are clear: they seek a safe and empathetic space to explore their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, and they long for a path towards healing and personal growth. My ideal client's ultimate goal is to find inner peace, develop resilience, and rediscover the joy in life.

I have a passion for working with anxiety related conditions including general anxiety, adjustment, change of life difficulties, stress, and associated difficulties such as perfectionism. Through my work with young people I developed an interest in school related issues which led me to complete training in the Cool Kid Anxiety Program. I now offer the program which aims to support young people and their supports to learn ways to address their mental health struggles.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
