I particularly assist clients that require therapy in the areas of anxiety, substance abuse (other addictions), depression and relationship issues. My focus is on working with the client towards personal development and goal setting. Each client is so very unique, hence, requires a personal counselling approach that is catered entirely for them. As a therapist, i work with various approaches such as: CBT, ACT, humanistic approach and TRTP (trauma therapy) amongst many other(s).

I have 25 years’ experience in public mental health and private practice. It is well established that the most important ingredient for any successful therapy is the therapeutic relationship which develops over time and helps you feel safe. I work with you to make sense of your unique story and the reasons you’re engaging in therapy. I start by understanding your early life experiences which impact your thinking patterns, emotions and behaviours from an emphatic and non-judgmental position. Therapy is embedded with compassion, tailored to meet your goals, from a strengths based position to empower your recovery journey.

Mental and emotional well-being is essential to achieving goals and being the best version of ourselves. Even negative emotions contain messages if unaddressed can lead to poor mental health and interpersonal difficulties. Medicating away or numbing out difficult emotions is not the only way. By being emotionally intelligent, we can achieve goals and have the relationship we want.

Couples come to me often feeling that the constant arguing is wearing them down, that they are at the bottom of their partner’s priority list, or that they feel more like roommates rather than lovers. Others complain of constant bickering, walking on eggshells around each other, or living like ships in the night. I also see couples for pre-marital counselling and specific problems such as sexual difficulties, infidelity, money, in-laws, addictions and parenting. In working together we will build insights into patterns that are no longer serving you, and develop action so we can move you from stuck to thriving again.

Are you struggling with your life and feel you might have unresolved issues, trauma, relationship or neurodiversity challenges or managing family dynamics/adoptee/grief and loss, bereavement or cultural issues? LGBTQIA+ needs that aren’t being seen or understood? A good counsellor will allow you space to talk, guide you gently along your journey and provide safety and non judgement to explore what can be achieved. This is the foundation of my practice - always from a trauma informed perspective.

We can focus on a specific problem area you bring to therapy, and delve to a deeper level of understanding of the issue/s so as to resolve it, or we can work in a more fluid, open-ended manner, with self-discovery in mind. While I am not resistant to diagnosis and working within a pathological lens, I like to see people outside of narrow diagnostic labels. In the first instance, my first approach is to understand a client’s suffering by learning about them as unique individuals with complex histories and adaptive coping strategies. As I engage wholeheartedly with clients, my ask is that clients attempt to engage wholeheartedly too.

Do you wonder whether your goals and aspirations have been influenced by society? Perhaps if you were truly living for YOU, your goals would look quite different. Anxiety can dominate our lives until we start uncovering what we truly want out of life. Radically accepting yourself - and understanding your true desires and values - can set you on a more meaningful and fulfilling path. Looking at our issues in a Holistic way allows us to understand ourselves better, which fosters self-compassion.

I work with adult clients experiencing complex trauma, depression, anxiety, interpersonal difficulties, identity conflicts, grief and loss. I treat people of all genders, but have a special interest in men’s psychological struggles. My clients tend to appreciate that psychological growth involves more than 'strategies', and that self-discovery, self-insight and self-acceptance lie at the heart of each healing journey. They expect to be challenged as well as supported, and to be guided by an experienced, insightful, and compassionate therapist who is able to hold and contain whatever distress they bring.

Infidelity Counsellors

How does therapy for infidelity work?

A skilled infidelity therapist will provide a safe space for clients to communicate their feelings and concerns. The goal is to be completely honest about what led to the cheating and how it has affected the entire family to prevent it from recurring in the future. The therapist will help the clients work on rebuilding mutual trust and respect and developing better communication and conflict-resolution skills. If the goal is to remain a couple, clients will learn the “danger signs” for their specific relationship, and they will make a renewed commitment to be faithful.

How long does therapy for infidelity take?

Recovery from infidelity can take time, and it can vary from person to person. Generally, a therapist will want to see the clients at least once a week for around six months. Then the sessions can be arranged as needed, depending on the clients’ individual needs. While therapy may end or shift to an as-needed basis, it can take up to two years or more for some clients to fully recover from infidelity.

How does therapy help the partner who was cheated on?

When a client discovers their partner’s infidelity, their trust in the relationship and in the life they had together may be shattered. They often experience mental health symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, grief, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). They don’t always want to stay in the relationship; they may feel ambivalent or may even want to leave. Therapy gives these clients a safe and healthy way to communicate all of their complicated emotions and concerns.

How does therapy help the partner who committed infidelity?

Infidelity often occurs when one or both partners’ emotional needs are not being met in the relationship. Therapy can help this client understand why they cheated and figure out how to address those unmet needs without resorting to infidelity in the future. This can lessen (but not entirely eliminate) the risk of repeated infidelity. Clients who cheat may also feel intense guilt about deceiving their partners, a sentiment that they can work through in therapy.
