My name is Lauren and I am passionate about helping people connect with themselves more deeply. I have over 10 years experience working with trauma in private practice, as a researcher and with the Centre for Survivors of Torture and Trauma. I use a range of therapeutic techniques to help people become more present in their lives and develop a sense of safety in the world, their relationships and in their own body. Through loving presence and techniques from Focusing and Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS), I help people access their own deep sense of inner knowing.

Somatic techniques can help to address embodied trauma and provide coping skills for emotional regulation, particularly in adolescence, for women's issues in the perinatal and menopausal period, and during other phases of both physical and psychological change.
Hello, I offer inclusive counselling for young people, adults, couples and families who are dealing with complex transitions, relationship challenges and identity changes, or struggling with loss, grief and unresolved trauma. With professional and lived experience among a range of diverse communities, I understand that adjusting to these events can be complicated, and even more distressing without the right kind of emotional support. It can lead us to question our journey and undermine our ability to move forward in our lives. Together we can explore whatever is happening for you in a culturally safe and trauma-informed way.

You know how some men and women who are people-pleasers struggle with being too busy and always putting others first so they push down their own feelings, needs, and wants, which means they never feel truly seen, heard, known, and loved? Well, what I do is provide a safe space to deepen exploration of themselves by offering humanistic-experiential therapy sessions. This allows my clients to understand themselves better, honour their emotions, needs, and wants, and improve their relationships with others.

Hello! I’m Chaille (Shay). I’ve spent most of the last decade living and working overseas away from friends and family, this taught me that there is nothing better than having a person who is your home and who will support you no matter what. I am very analytic and straight forward, but I’m also endlessly compassionate. More than anything, I want you to feel comfortable and safe when working with me. As a counsellor, my focus is on increasing quality of life. I help clients process their experiences in an environment of respect, help them feel heard, safe and validated. I offer evidence-based counselling for individuals and couples

I wholeheartedly believe in therapeutic healing through safety, compassion & acceptance in the present moment. If we are in distress, feeling lost, alone, sad, anxious or angry it can be hard to know whom to talk with or, what to talk about. Sometimes we don't want to talk at all to start with and, would prefer to do a creative/movement exercise to express ourselves. Maybe we know exactly what we want to talk about and explore, maybe learning new skills to integrate into daily life. I can be there to support you, whatever stage you are at.

I specialise in working with infants and their carers, children of all ages and their parents, parenting sub systems and broader family work. I use systemic family therapy, play and other evidence base modalities to respond to need. A systemic perspective takes into account past and present history and broader system impacts. Using a strength based position I work to reduce distress and symptoms, by deepening understanding and creating connection through developing new ways of communication and being together.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
