Life has its tough times and big challenges. It doesn't mean we have a mental health issue if we need a bit of extra support to navigate a tough time or work through problems in our relationship. It simply means we're human! I provide individual and couples counselling in the Macedon Ranges. I take a truly calming and compassionate approach and ensure your comfort at all times. Speaking to a counsellor can really help us to gain perspective and insight, and to process our complex emotions, enabling us to feel heard and understood, then to take the next step forward - whether as an individual or as a couple.

I have been practicing for 20 years in mental health. I find that people come to counselling when they are overwhelmed with the situation they find themselves in and need that perspective to be able to step back and look at what is happening in their lives which has brought them to this point. Clients want to be listened to and really heard. Clients need time to do their own processing of what comes out of their narrative. I practice from a social model of health perspective, where the in client, although an individual, is part of a social system that must be considered in their journey to good mental health.

I come to the therapeutic space with a deep curiosity about life and the people I meet there, their stories, their lives, their relationships with others and most importantly with themselves. I join with you and guide you to discover the more hidden parts of yourself that you haven’t yet explored or have only touched on. Perhaps there’s a difficult or recurring issue from your personal or professional life that you would like to address. It could be grief, loss, depression, anxiety, addiction, dissociation, historical or current trauma, life transition, identity or relationship issues, or even existential questions and concerns.

I am deeply attuned to the profound nature of developmental psychology, igniting my dedication to working with children, adolescents, and young individuals. Over the course of the last 5 years, I have earnestly honed my clinical expertise by offering assistance to people from diverse backgrounds, spanning ages 4 to 86. However, it is in the realm of child and adolescent psychology that my true passion lies, and thus I have chosen to take a courageous detour in my career to bring focus primarily to this area. I am driven by the desire to make a lasting impact by providing unparalleled compassion and exceptional care.

Are you feeling that talk therapies aren’t quite getting to the heart of the problem? Are you or your kids experiencing big emotions that appear out of nowhere and can’t quite be explained by words? Do your kids need help, but encouraging them to attend sessions has turned into a weekly carpark battle? Do you want a therapist who can work creatively with your family rather than answering questions like a textbook? Do you wish therapy could just simply feel easier?

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
