A social worker and coach with ten years of experience working in the fields of family violence, homelessness and mental health, I am currently an Advanced-level student in Somatic Experiencing.
The supremacy dream has left us frozen, fragmented and disconnected from ourselves, others, and our ecosystem. Working through our body allows us to touch our vital force of life and come closer to our true desires and dreams. When we feel a sense of safety and belonging within ourselves, we enter into deeper intimacy with our wider webs of love - to our kin, the earth and the cosmos. In a world where the dominant narrative is to hustle more to accomplish your dreams, as your somatic coach, I am here to help your nervous system work less hard so you can relax into your Being and trust your inner inklings for what’s next.

A wish to get better, and a willingness to look inside oneself. These are the only essentials for success in therapy. I enjoy helping people with OCD and rumination to regain a sense of agency over their mind, people with depression to understand what is happening inside themselves that is causing their suffering and free themselves from it, people with PTSD to feel safe again and gain self-compassion and heal their nervous system, people with difficulty in relationships to understand what is happening and operate more smoothly, and helping people with many other difficulties to heal and move forward.

Typically, my clients have been to therapy many times before, but don't quite get to the bottom of their problems. They have tried the traditional methods of therapy that promote coping, but feel disheartened when they inevitably fall back into their old habits. Often they appear fine on the outside, but every day is a struggle. There is a big feeling of stuckness, or that 'something isn't right'. It's often hard to say exactly what is wrong. The words 'anxiety' and 'depression' don't seem to properly explain things. There may be a history of bad relationships, or struggling to accept love. Despite all this, they haven't given up.

Feeling disconnected from yourself and others? Putting your needs at the bottom of the to-do list? Wondering if life should feel better and happier? Many people are feeling anxious, overwhelmed, and uncertain about how to manage their relationships, careers, and lives now more than ever. Ignoring your needs and not taking time for yourself can lead to long-term issues for your mind and body. I believe that living a better life shouldn't be so hard.

Hi, I'm Danni (she/her). I am a Melbourne / Naarm based psychologist & registered play therapist. I specialise in child therapy, using play to nurture a child’s sense of self. My practice is client-led and trauma-informed, with a focus on building a strong therapeutic relationship. This allows me to focus on the child as a whole, rather than just their struggles. This gentle and strengths-based approach facilitates healing and growth. I have worked in schools and private and public care settings, with extensive experience in a large paediatric working with children who have experienced significant trauma.

Hello. If you’re searching for a new and effective way of coping with stress, burnout, anxiety or complex trauma recovery, third-wave psychology might be the secret ingredient you’re looking for (mindfulness combined with traditional talk therapy). Maybe you’re suffering the horrible confusion and pain of narcissistic abuse or bullying. I can help. I have lived experience and in-depth understanding of what you’re going through. I’ve published a book, a podcast, blog and recently a short article in Australian Counselling Journal.

Traumatised and autistic people typically show common symptoms such as general & social anxiety, poor anger management, emotional dysregulation, relationship challenges, procrastination, poor sleep & substance abuse.
It's my job to make myself redundant with clients, to help them end their work with me equipped with insights & skills to better manage emotional challenges. I use EMDR to treat trauma from childhood, military service, sexual assault, family violence, road accidents & medical procedures. EMDR can also be helpful with workplace & social anxiety. In addition, I counsel adult clients with symptoms of autism such as rigid thinking & emotional barriers. I offer a safe space where intrusive & distressing thoughts can be safely explored, discussed respectfully & helpfully - & with some humour, but no nonsense.

Domestic Abuse Counsellors

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognise that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
