People come to see me for many reasons, including anxiety, traumatic experiences, stress, grief, relationship difficulties and depression. In particular, I specialise in helping clients with chronic stress and anxiety in a friendly and non-judgmental way. For many, anxiety isn't just about feeling anxious - having symptoms - it's also about a pervading sense of unease about their place in the world. It can show up as an underlying sense of "doom" which never seems to go away completely. My experience is that anxiety sufferers don't feel safe, and what they most need is meaningful connection with others, including their therapist.
I work in an open-ended way so we can explore your concerns as deeply as you want, for as long or as short a time as you want. I have a particular interest in compassion-focused therapy and its solid basis in evolutionary psychology - in other words, the business of being "human animals" making our way in the world with a decidedly tricky brain.
None of my theoretical or clinical knowledge is any use unless people feel comfortable talking to me. So I try to be real, down-to-earth and honest. I don't tell people how to live their lives. But I'm deeply interested in their life stories, and that includes yours, if you would like to tell me some of it. Call me any time for an initial chat at no charge.
