My approach to therapy is client directed and outcome informed. A brief measure is used at the beginning of each session to identify the areas of your life (personal, interpersonal, or social) that are causing most distress. We will work on these areas together in therapy. Reliable change can be expected after 6-7 sessions. At the end of each session a brief measure is used for you to assess the quality of our therapeutic relationship. As a gay man and having worked as the counsellor at Gay Mens Health (ACSA), I have much experience and understanding of the challenges faced by gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men today. My approach is to work to build a strong therapeutic relationship with you, where you feel safe to explore the issues that are troubling you.
I can help you: work on relationship challenges, feel positive about your identity and sexuality, cope with negative social attitudes, with transgender issues, and other mental health problems such as anxiety, depression, and trauma. As a gay man who was married for over 20 years, I believe I understand many of the issues that BLBTIQ individuals face.
