Having a harsh inner critic, boundary or control issues, addictions, out of control emotions or feeling numb inside are all symptoms of trauma. NOT signs of weakness or personality flaws. Trauma is caused by the mix of overwhelm and powerlessness. We didn't have to suffer childhood abuse or tragedies to experience the above symptoms in life. Removal of love, criticism, expectations of who we should be or parents who struggled with their own issues were traumatic, and lead to adaptations we needed to survive. If any of these resonate, you are not alone. I talk to people like you. And like them, you too can heal.

I specialize in Male counselling. Do you find you get moody, shut down and don't talk. Go into your grumpy bear cave and don't come out for a while. Do you find you flick between being logical and then illogical really loving then get offended if your partner rejects you and then you get angry. Then we need to talk. I will give you your first session at no charge. It is important we are a good fit. You need to know I know what it is like being a male and you can relate to me. I assist separated dads, help with Domestic Violence Orders, Family Separation and reunification.

I am a Clinical Psychologist and work from a psychoanalytical framework. I typically work with adults (16+ years) for long term therapy but also practice short-term, solution focused, insight driven therapy if time is limited. In this approach, the emphasis of treatment is about working to understanding the roots of the problem, not just dealing with the symptoms. This leads to lasting change.

Hello, it's nice to meet you here. If you are struggling with eating or body image issues, I can support you to find a way out. You may be stuck in cycles and patterns of behaviours with food that you know are not helpful but you can't find a way to make changes. You may be dissatisfied with your body and long to find some peace but don't know where to start. You may have had a difficult relationship with food for a long or short time and would love for this to no longer be an issue in your life. You may have previously accessed health services for your eating disorder or you may never spoken of these challenges to anyone.

Relationship issues effect most aspects of your life. If we feel safe and secure in our home with our partner, then we can face all other adversity so much easier. I specialize in assisting that close connective bond with Attachment Focused processes using Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy as well as many other modalities which are useful towards the same goal. I believe couple work needs much more time than the standard 50-60 minutes so ask that you be prepared to stay in session between 90 to 120 minutes.

I'm Jay Beckley, like most psychologists I enjoy supporting people that have a range of problems. Here is what you can expect from a psychology session with me. Firstly, a conversation to determine if I am the right person for you. Your privacy and confidentiality are assured. A comfortable safe environment. To be listened to – no matter how big or small the problem is. For your problem to be explored further and understood with empathy and compassion. To be responded to with respect and compassion. To not feel judged. To not feel alone, but as part of a team. Evidence based strategies tailored to your needs and monitoring.

Life can get difficult, and sometimes a little help from a professional Psychologist can make things better. I am passionate about breaking down the barriers and stigmas of mental health and choosing to see a psychologist. I provide care that is scientifically evidenced based, friendly and caring, laid back and no nonsense. I appreciate the courage it takes for individuals to seek help and aim to establish a therapeutic relationship that is non-judgmental and supportive whilst enhancing a client’s independence.

Often people seek out a counsellor or psychotherapist as a last resort. They wait until small cracks in their life become big ones that turn into chasms and feel like they’re going to swallow them up. The reason? There is still a stigma in Australia around seeking help when we’re struggling (particularly among men). Here’s the good news: if you’re facing challenges right now, whether they’re tiny or monstrous, there’s actually nothing wrong with you! Life is just pretty complicated these days, social support is often not as strong or frequent as we need, and so we all need a bit of special support and guidance sometimes.

FACT IS: "It's not a matter of IF life will throw obstacles and hurdles at you... it's WHEN." For 20 years I have been counselling people from all walks of life (CEOs, surgeons and psychologists through to miners, call centre staff, managers and cleaners). And what I've noticed is how many people struggle with their relationships - that could be the relationship with their partner, their child, their parents, their co-workers, their mates or the biggest and most important relationship of them all... THEMSELVES! Now, they don't always know it's their relationship at first, because it might look like stress, conflict, anxiety, etc.

Most of us want to gain insight into the difficulties that limit our lives, find strength and peace and develop a more meaningful approach in life. Feelings of emptiness and meaninglessness, grief and loss, spiritual questioning, entrenched patterns of behaviour, self image, creativity issues, self sabotage, early, midlife and late life transitioning - these are just a few difficulties which can cause considerable psychological suffering and pain. Emotional suffering destroys our contentment with and in life.
