Hi, I'm Louise, counsellor, mum of 2 kids and 2 cats, and ADHDer. If you feel overwhelmed, stressed, anxious, angry, exhausted with all the things you’re juggling at work and at home - You are not alone! Many of my clients feel the pressure, stress, anxiety and anger of doing so much. (And of course so do I. As an ADHDer, I get it.) What if I could help with tools and strategies to dial down overwhelm, and reduce stress, anxiety and anger? I would love to help you to make changes and live a life that’s calmer, more positive and rewarding; moving forward with a focus on what’s important to you and how you want to live your best life.

Are you stressed out, anxious, always rushing about and feeling overwhelmed by the demands on you within your life. Someone always needs something from you - the kids, partners, ageing parents, friends, family. You would like things to be different, You would like to be less stressed, calmer and happier - but you do not know where to start or even if making change is really possible. I have found that time in nature gifts us with profound benefits. It decreases anxiety and stress, by calming our nervous system. Time in nature improves our mood, increases self-esteem and offers a sense of belonging. Nature is central to my practice.

I especially connect with and enjoy providing support to people who struggle because they are highly-sensitive (hsperson.com), perfectionists, over-thinkers, anxious/worriers, or they have a history of trauma (from childhood, or from adult experiences, such as military service, miscarriage, violent assault, workplace bullying). I enjoy complex presentations, where there may be PTSD, anxiety, attachment issues, perfectionism, where the person's goal is to create an inner peace, fulfilment and live a more contented life. With couples, I can help you learn how to communicate effectively, resolve conflicts and improve your connection.

You seek a more fulfilling life. While it looks like you have it together on the surface, inside it doesn't feel that way. You long to release the tension you've been holding in your body, to feel like your life and choices are aligned with who you really are. You want to develop those parts of you that will allow you to shift into a new way of living.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
