I see clients for all kinds of different reasons such as concerns related to depression and anxiety, trauma, grief & loss, life changes, parenting, relationship concerns or simply because they want to connect with a therapist to help maintain positive mental health. I may teach strategies, teach you about your brain and body, and how you can take charge of your own wellbeing. There is no ‘one size fits all’ approach, together we can decide what approach feels most comfortable and works best for you.

I enjoy helping clients who are experiencing life challenges and are stressed. It is rewarding to journey with clients as they take the initial step acknowledging they need help then be willing to look deeply within themselves as they learn ways to cope. My clients want to lead more satisfying and healthy lives, enjoy happier and more harmonious relationships (at home or work), and fulfil their potential. I help my clients achieve greater inner calm, resilience, health and wellbeing, and personal goals, so they enjoy their life, love and appreciate who they are, get off autopilot default mode, and be a positive force in the world.

I am taking new clients for telehealth, and Face to Face in Brisbane at Victoria Point. I am a general psychologist with over three decades of experience. I came to therapy with a non-pathologising view of symptoms and behaviour. My view is that the vast majority of symptoms of "mental illness" are an understandable response to various life circumstances. Some deep in our past, some in our present. I am passionate about helping people to heal, grow, and live full lives. Via telehealth, I can see clients in any location.

My journey in the helping profession began with a successful career in Public Relations and Recruitment. However I was always more interested in the uniqueness and individuality of people - how they think, feel and navigate life’s challenges. Everyone possesses resilience and competence, and my goal is to support you to reconnect what is really important to you and identify the strategies and supports that will meet your unique needs. With a deeper awareness, you can reconnect with your own hopes for the way you want to live your life.

My personal and professional experience has led me to be passionate about supporting people to heal complex trauma and increase capacity to live vibrant and fulfilling lives. This includes supporting parents to work through, process and resolve childhood attachment trauma that has led them to having difficulties in their own parenting. I have supported many clients on this healing journey which has resulted in them changing the trajectory of their lives, the lives of their children and potentially the lives of family members for generations to come. I welcome new clients and their vast potential for living life to the fullest.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
