As an experienced and compassionate counsellor, having worked in the counselling and people-helping sectors for over 15 years, I have established a broad understanding of working with issues such anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, emotional distress, self-confidence, shame, guilt, grief and loss, addictions, and personal and relationship issues.
Are you feeling anxious, stressed, confused, emotionally overwhelmed? Does life seem overwhelming, unfair, sad, unfulfilling, directionless, hopeless? Is your relationship in distress or not as fulfilling as you’d like? You’re not alone. I endeavour to understand what is important for you, which means that I don’t have a one-size-fits-all approach. Using empathy and non-judgement, I listen to understand what life is like for you and to ‘get’ you - what you are thinking and feeling, how the events of life have impacted you, and what you want and need. I create a safe space to be open and real about what you are experiencing.

I am passionate about helping you using such methods as BRAINSPOTTING, Internal Family Systems IFS, Imago Relationship Therapy and Gottman Relationship Therapy to name just a few of many gathered over 37 years.
So often clients come with a sense of hopelessness in their lives. Worry about their relationships with partners and family members and a belief that they are failing themselves or others. So many say "I just want to be normal" especially if they have experience trauma in their lives. Many clients don't trust easily if they have been betrayed and fear they are "stuck forever... nothing will change... " .

Within a supportive professional relationship, you will be treated with warmth and respect.
Sometimes challenging life experiences undermine our usual coping abilities. Although we can’t avoid pain, we can learn new ways to handle it so that even in the presence of the difficult stuff, we're able to shape a life that is rich, meaningful and well worth living.

Having spent many years in working with people recovering from natural disasters in Queensland, I understand that very often, it is the ‘straw that breaks the camel’s back’ that will bring a person into the counselling room. Having said that, some may enter the counselling environment looking for personal growth, while embarking on a new season in life. While others may be looking to find solutions to a problem, heal a troubled relationship, overcome anxiety or depression, or perhaps the time has come to work through past hurts, traumas or grief that are still impacting.

It is a space where you can consider relationship patterns, how they have developed and how they leave you feeling.
I work with people who struggle to be themselves, trust themselves and want to have better relationships with other people. If this is you, you might try to achieve this by taking care of everyone else or presenting a version of yourself to the world that you think people would like. You no longer know who you are or what you stand for. Because you’re working so hard within all your relationships you are probably kicking goals in areas like work, but this comes at a cost. You are going above and beyond for others at the expense of yourself which leaves you feeling exhausted, unfulfilled and stressed.

as painful as your problem is - i want to hear it and build our relationship so that we can get you though this time in your life.
Are you struggling with anxiety, depression or other mental health problem. Do you need someone to listen when others can’t. If you feel alone and need someone to be with you who has the ability to understand and help you understand - give me a call. Do you want help to repair your relationships with others - family, friends, workplace, children. Are you able to accept some responsibility for your own thoughts, feelings and behaviour. Would you like to understand why you feel the way you do and respond to others the way you do. Are you prepared to work with me on this in order to make the changes you want. There is hope!

Relationship Issues Counsellors
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
