As a counsellor and psychotherapist, my vision is to create an alternative, holistic approach to healing by incorporating a combination of evidence-based talk therapy with practice-based interventions - the cornerstone for gold standard treatment for trauma and other mental health issues. As we adapt to the demands of a competitive society, the escalating high costs of living, and increased societal division through gender violence, our relationships with self and others become vulnerable. We have less time available to cultivate healthy relationships for ourselves and others which prevents us from living a full and happy life.

Most of us experience anxiety and depressive thoughts at some time. Perhaps there is something going on in your life now that is making you question if you can cope. Perhaps it is old stuff bubbling up. Perhaps you have reached the point of numbness. Perhaps you just know it's time to talk to someone because you know it will help to break the silence. I will support you, I will listen and offer a an alternative perspective when you get stuck. I’ll point out when you are being hard on yourself or skipping over achievements. And if you have recurring thoughts or habits you want to change I can help with that too.

What would you do without that sadness? Will we find out? Sadness has many faces: anxious, depressed, traumatised, angry. Well ten years of formal training (Clinical Psychologist) tells you I’m patient, sincere, and ready to hold it all gently while we detangle it together. The gift is seeing your situation from higher ground. You move past the tricky mind, onto peace and flow. BYO anguish & confusion, take away stillness. As Van Morrison almost said: ‘No Guru, Just Method’. Clin. Psychs use gold-standard methods to help you see yourself afresh, identify where you're stuck, and truly connect you with here-now capacity for change.

Life doesn't always go as we plan. We can end up experiencing relationship struggles or abuse, find it difficult to get past grief and loss, find ourselves relying on substances or other addictive behaviours to get by. We may experience depression or anxiety, or wake up one morning and realise that for whatever reason, things that used to work for us are just not working anymore. We may feel exhausted or empty or disappointed and not really know why. Whether you are battling a long term problem or experiencing a new and unexpected struggle, we can support and equip you through empathetic and confidential counselling.

I named my practice Finding Serenity as that is what I would like my clients to receive. If you want someone that will listen and work with you to achieve your 'serenity' I would love to talk to you. I am trained in Suicide Prevention, Suicide Bereavement, Abuse, Grief and Loss, Dementia support. Our thoughts, issues and problems do not happen 9 to 5 so neither does my practice. I am available nights and weekends and will fit in with you, when it suits you and also as soon as possible. I am also a member of the College of Supervisors with Australian Counselling Association so I am available for supervision also.

I specialize in Trauma Processing and this is where i find that the most positive outcomes are from. I love to talk to people and hear their story then we work out together what is the core beliefs and where that this might come from. Then we work on processing any trauma from childhood or other parts of life. This impacts greatly on the story that you tell yourself and the patterns of behavior that you want to change. I don't want people to be sitting talking to me for years with no breakthrough or change in behavior. I want you to be living your life to the fullest with maximum joy!

I believe the essence of emotional health and wellbeing is deeply connected to our relationships, how we connect or disconnect from others and our self. Life events, trauma’s, losses, isolation and sudden change can rupture our sense of wellbeing and impact or limit our potential. As a psychotherapist, I offer a genuine, caring, supportive space and the opportunity to explore and grow self-understanding and awareness, understand themes and patterns and process trauma and loss. I practice Relational Gestalt and person-centred therapy, working with the whole person with a willingness to continually learn, understand and support.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
