From my own lived experience and from what I have witnessed in my practice, I strongly believe that psychotherapy has the power to make profound and positive impacts on people at all stages of their life. To achieve this I provide safe and judgement-free space to ensure that people feel heard, understood and accepted and I am always conscious to adapt my therapeutic approach based on a person’s specific needs and goals.

I utilise a range of therapeutic modalities to suit individual needs, including the Psychoanalytic approach, Family Systems, Attachment-based, Solution-Focused Therapy and Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy, to facilitate each therapeutic journey with curiosity and compassion.
It is said that the trauma we experienced in our past can inform the way we learn to experience our current world. Not having the supports we needed along the way may have also lead us to cope in unhealthy ways, all while searching for ease and peace. Unique to us all, unresolved pain and disconnection can feel too complex or overwhelming to face by ourselves. For many, a range of bio-psycho-social issues develop, including anxiety, depression, loss of motivation, interpersonal conflicts or a negative view of self or the world. So how do we begin to identify and learn healthier ways of coping and reconnecting with the self?

Psychoanalysis perceives every person as a unique individual, principally different from others, with own life perspective, personal desires, aspirations, and strengths, as well as weaknesses, fears and concerns. In psychoanalysis there is no ‘one solution’ that fits all. Because every human being is a unique person, his/her solutions in life would be essentially individual and discovered via a journey of self-exploration, reflection, and insight within the process of psychoanalytic treatment.

Have you finally gotten to the point where you're struggling to manage issues you have been holding onto for years? Or Do you often find yourself feeling quite stuck in the present? With the daily hustle of life, it can become very easy to neglect parts of ourselves that really need attention. Often there are unresolved issues or traumas from the past that have never been addressed and keep coming back to remind us that they're still there and need to be attended to. Unfortunately, they can keep coming back if we continue to ignore them.

I work as an art psychotherapist with adults and children that have experienced trauma, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, health related issues and have worked in community contexts to support parents and their children. Sometimes it can be hard to express our experiences verbally and working through creative means can help us gain an understanding of ourselves and enable us to express and find emotional relief for issues that might otherwise seem overwhelming. It provides a way of expressing our inner world without the need for words. Art therapy is suitable for all ages and requires no prior artistic skills.

I wholeheartedly believe that we all possess unique strengths and qualities that can be honed and amplified, empowering us to embrace our individual journey towards meaning and fulfillment. Amidst distress, overwhelming pressures, and internal doubts, it can be challenging to remember these qualities, but my therapeutic approach aligns with this philosophy. I draw extensively upon transformative modalities such as Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Does psychoanalytic therapy work?
Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviours. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.
How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?
Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behaviour is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.
Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?
Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.
Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?
Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
