I am currently working at Dementia Australia as Dementia Counsellor. At Find Ur "Self" we specialise in CBT and our purpose is to help you find your inner self. Together we can make sense of how you think, behave, feel and learn. Through Talk therapy you can share your problems and feelings in a very confidential way which can help you deal with your vulnerability in a positive manner. I will listen with empathy to help overcome your issues that may be causing you emotional pain and/or extreme discomfort. I offer a safe space for you to explore difficult feelings which I believe influences the success of the therapy.

My approach is you-centered, which means whilst I would try to gently initiate explorations, you, the client, are always in the driver's seat. Further, my stance on providing trauma-informed care includes acknowledging that some of our pasts can still be a place too hard to revisit, too unbearable to face. I affirm that to do a deep work together does not necessarily need a revisit the gory details of your traumatic past. Still, trauma is a shadow with many faces; people also process differently. So when you'd wish & your safety toolkit is in place, I will be walking with you through every step of opening that can.

Somewhere along the way, there has been a rupture between you and your child. You are constantly overwhelmed by their BIG emotions and behaviours, and you are doing your best to respond differently from your default parenting patterns. Maybe they've been through something big. You desire a stronger, more secure and trusting relationship with your child. You dream of fostering co-operation and harmonious sibling (and peer) relationships. Your really want to support them in their growth, development and wellbeing.

Whether you want to learn strategies to regain mental health; regulate intense emotions; navigate life's complexities and relationships; manage stress or simply maintain optimal wellbeing and balance, I take a compassionate, collaborative and client-centred approach in employing evidence based treatment relevant to the uniqueness of the client. Working with adolescents and adults from a predominantly DBT-informed lens, I encourage people to take an active role in devising treatment goals and firmly believe that each individual is the expert on themselves. I strive to consistently embody non-judgment and flexibility in all that I do.

I have over sixteen years experience in treating mental health conditions in adolescents, adults and older adults. I am trained in Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy and Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP). In my journey as a therapist, I found CBT was not reaching the heart of the issue for my clients and was a surface level treatment. I searched for more and found ISTDP to be a more thorough explanation of the human person, particular what causes problems and psychopathology. I use ISTDP with an attachment based lens now as my main therapeutic modality.

I have a strong interest in working with individuals experiencing anxiety, chronic health conditions, chronic pain and life transitions (such as work roles, migration, or life stages). I am also passionate about working with individuals from different cultures (particularly South East Asia) and adjusting to living in Australia as a migrant or international student, who are exploring their sense of self and identity, and reconciling their values with their new identity. I see therapy as a safe, non-judgemental, calm space to explore the issues in depth.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
