We will work together on what is most important to you. Many clients are embarking on their recovery journey and are seeking relief from very acute addictive behaviours. Others are seeking longer-term psychotherapy to heal the wounds underlying those addictions. Others still, are seeking just a few sessions for specific challenges, such as a relationship break-up, bouts of anxiety or depression, or because they feel stuck in some way. And often, people don’t really know what they want and need yet, and that’s ok too. Whatever you bring, you are welcome here. Please have a look at my website for food addiction recovery group work.

Are you feeling disconnected from yourself and others? You could be feeling depressed, maybe you suffer from anxiety. You might feel overwhelmed by your emotions at times. Sadness. Anger. Confusion. Sometimes they all mix together into one big negative feeling that threatens to overtake you. Or, maybe you just feel numb–you go about your life… like you are living in a daze not knowing what you feel or what you want. Maybe you feel simply just not good enough.

I use person-centred and somatic approaches based on your needs.
“Of all the forces in the universe, the hardest to overcome is force of habit”—Terry Pratchett. As a queer, non-binary (LGBTQIA+) therapist, I offer a judgement-free and affirming space to unpack hard stuff around relationships, identity, stress/anxiety, and existence at whatever pace works for you. Together, we’ll puzzle out the unique bits that make you who you are and use that understanding to equip you with the tools and support you need to make positive changes in your life. My focus is always around making therapy a safe, low-pressure place where you can be yourself, using an anti-oppressive and intersectional framework.

I bring a combination of tools to our sessions including; narrative therapy, strengths based coaching, somatic awareness and transactional analysis to name just a few.
I help people sort through messy, complicated and stuck experiences. Our world is confusing and complicated (even at the best of times). We often find ourselves stuck, locked or held back by something we don’t fully understand, yet. I bring the best parts of therapy and coaching together. It’s here in this space, that we will make room for clarity, reflection, presence and activating the right kind of change.

I draw on a variety of techniques from EMDR, parts work, attachment theory, mindfulness practices and somatic therapies.
I am a trauma informed Clinical Psychotherapist and EMDR therapist. I seek to create a deepening awareness of self and enhance connection with others. I work primarily in the areas of complex trauma and dissociation supporting individuals and their loved ones. Exploration of the human condition has always intrigued me. I am curious as to the driving force behind why we do what we do and what determines our path in life. In understanding our life’s journey and what shapes it, we can begin to move towards a more content existence - with a balanced relationship with the world and the connections it brings.

Are you affected by issues like anxiety, depression, addiction, abuse, loss, or relationships? My approach is compassionate and holistic, incorporating Sensorimotor Psyhotherapy, Internal Family Systems and Emotional Freedom Technique, to treat the somatic, emotional and psychological elements of unresolved trauma. Such symptoms may lie deep within the body, often at an unconscious level, and which traditional talking therapies may fail to address. I value our uniqueness as individuals and believe that we each have an innate capacity for healing and growth. I work with adults and offer both short-term and open-ended work.

I draw from a range of depth-oriented therapeutic modalities such as Dream Work, Jungian Psychology, Internal Family Systems Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Somatic Psychotherapy and Psychedelic Integration.
With a deeply curious and open-minded approach, I work in a way that integrates the paradigms of ancient wisdom and evidence based practice. I believe that there is a unique intelligence behind the challenges or experiences individuals bring to therapy. I aim to be led by this inherent intelligence, with an understanding that we all have a natural inclination towards health and wholeness when we are provided with the appropriate support.

Understanding how you experience the world is central to my work as a therapist. I am interested how feelings and thoughts can manifest in our bodies. Gentle exploration of these somatic responses can assist in deeper understanding of our emotional world. Working together, I would support you toward your self-acceptance of challenging thoughts and feelings. Alongside my private practice, I work with a national not-for-profit supporting parents experiencing antenatal and postnatal anxiety, depression and adjustment to parenthood - as a spokesperson, managing clinical intake and clinical writing.

Somatic Counsellors

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
