Hello, my name is Caitlin, and I'm a clinical psychologist currently offering F2F and telehealth sessions at my cosy home clinic in Wahroonga. While I take mental health seriously, I try not to take myself or life too seriously. I believe therapy is effortful, taxing and hard, so it is important for my patients to feel as comfortable as possible in this process.

I use anti-oppressive and non-pathologising frameworks to counselling. This means I work with you to explore how you make sense of your life and experiences. I am deeply informed by social justice and critical theory. I welcome all bodies, genders and identities, and work to problematise the privileges I hold as a cis, able-bodied woman on stolen land. My style is conversational, where I collaborate with you to create a space where you can can get a greater sense of your preferences, hopes and befriend all parts of yourself. I approach counselling as a place for genuine connection and meaning-making.

I named my practice Finding Serenity as that is what I would like my clients to receive. If you want someone that will listen and work with you to achieve your 'serenity' I would love to talk to you. I am trained in Suicide Prevention, Suicide Bereavement, Abuse, Grief and Loss, Dementia support. Our thoughts, issues and problems do not happen 9 to 5 so neither does my practice. I am available nights and weekends and will fit in with you, when it suits you and also as soon as possible. I am also a member of the College of Supervisors with Australian Counselling Association so I am available for supervision also.

Are you in constant conflict with your partner? Do you find yourself disconnecting from each other over time? Relationship issues like conflicts are an integral part of a relationship. However, there is a good chance that the toxicity in the relationship has deeply wounded both. The needs of each other are ignored and arguments become less on the important issues as both are too emotionally detached to care anymore.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
