The ideal counseling client is someone who may be late-diagnosed or curious about being an Autistic or an ADHD person who needs support in figuring out how to deal with life their way. They are willing to actively participate in the therapeutic process by becoming aware, curious, and nonjudgemental toward themselves and others. They may have experienced trauma through growing up and want to find a safe person to help them heal and find better ways of living in the present.

Feeling lost, confused, angry, frustrated & often don’t know why? These are some of the most common words/phrases I hear from clients every day. I feel anxious all the time and I don’t know what to do about it is another common phrase. What if someone was able to sit and acknowledge all your negative thoughts, feelings and emotions and then offer an attractive strategy moving forward taking into account everything you need and are capable of so that you can be the Best Version of yourself. Working with you on an individualised basis freedom from those intruding negative thoughts and feelings is not only possible it can be a reality.

As someone who has personally navigated the complexities of relationships, I understand how tough they can be. I've battled with insecurities, wrestled with anxiety, struggled to communicate my needs, and navigated through the complex world of family life. But through it all, I've grown. Understanding my emotions and working through my issues in a safe space brought me a peace I had never known. This is the same gift I'd like to offer my clients through my professional service and I can't wait to walk with you on your journey!

Providing a safe place to share, discuss and work through those times where daily life feels difficult, coping with the day to day tasks becomes overwhelming, school, family, relationship issues become too much; bullying, peer pressure, friendship groups, sexting, screen time/gaming issues take over; questions around identity, transitions/transitioning through school, university, work has a sense of hopelessness and helplessness; family life family relationships, managing young children, teenagers, adolescents, young adults, and parenting in general simply becomes too much.

I work with high performing individuals who want to decrease their anxiety, stress and overwhelm and live a more healthy and balanced life. High performers tend to have many similar traits such as perfectionism, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression and high levels of stress. I also work with couples who are stuck in toxic relationship patterns and are needing the right tools and strategies to get unstuck and happy again.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
