Going to therapy takes guts. Often, it takes a person, or a couple, years to move from contemplating therapy to booking a first appointment. It’s not an easy process. But, what you get out of therapy is directly related to what you put into it. And I will match your dedication with mine. The process of healing and recovery is also one of becoming and realising. Therapy is self-development at its most satisfying. Yes, it takes courage, effort, and, often, a leap of faith. But, if you are ready to give yourself the gift of therapy, I am here to take that leap with you.

You don't need to be alone in how you're feeling and what you are experiencing. Therapy involves working with emotional pain, and in so doing we must access tremendous courage. It has taken courage for you to be considering counselling, to have spoken to a loved one about your mental health, to be here on this website right now, reading this. Empathy is a hostile environment for shame, and I will meet your courage with compassion and connection.

My expertise is processing stuck and unwanted emotion and behaviours, as well as thriving with ADHD. Founded by Gina McClement, Living In Bloom offers counselling, psychotherapy and ADHD therapy and coaching. I work with my clients to build a flourishing, purposeful and rewarding life, grown from a strong and healthy connection with oneself. The nature of life’s journey is to present us with twists and turns, challenges and adversity, but when we unfold and align with our unique and powerful authentic-self, life as we desire begins to flow. “When things change inside us, they begin to change all around us." Clinical Psychologist and Burnout Psychology Support owner, Shannon Swales has created a compassionate haven for adults experiencing burnout. This struggle is a terrain she knows intimately, having experienced burnout, which not only jeopardised her ability to work but also prompted a significant shift from caring for others to prioritising care for self. This imperfect yet profound transformation has propelled her to the state of wellness today, and her ability to come back to caregiving in a more balanced way and help others to find their way out of burnout.

Many people I work with suffer from various forms of anxiety, including obsessive thoughts, social anxiety, as well as issues with body image, relationships, and life transitions. Generally, those I work with are feeling “stuck” and are at a point where they long for or are desperate for relief. I help people regain a deeper connection with themselves and others and support them in moving forward to experience more peace and contentment in their life. I welcome neuro-diversity, and individuals who feel they navigate life a bit differently than others!

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
