Are you facing a crisis of faith from a religious upbringing or abuse in your spiritual community? Perhaps you were raised in a religious household, and you're still unraveling the lingering effects. Struggling with the impact of purity culture? Healing from religious trauma or deconstructing takes time, commitment, and self-compassion, but healing is possible! In the LGBTQIA+ community too? I get it. I provide a safe and affirming space for exploring your spirituality, sexuality and gender, on your terms.

After working in community services for 16 years, I took the leap into further study after identifying gaps in the support I was observing in the mental health sector. I Have now completed my Master of Counselling and established Keeping Individual Services For All or KISFA in order to provide quality mental health intervention to clients of any age, background or experiences.

If you were my client, I would work with you with the attitude that you are the expert in YOU. I would work to help you to unlock the answers that you need. My job is to help you to understand the patterns of behaviours that are tripping you up in life. I come from a non judgmental position, showing empathy and warmth, enabling you to hear your own voice. Often trauma, or things that have been ones a survival reaction become a stumbling block, our own inner critical voice can keep us from trusting ourselves. My intention is to help you capture your needs and like a caterpillar learn how to fly like a butterfly.

I include my gorgeous horses in client sessions to increase the potential for healing of emotional wounds, increasing resilience, building healthy relationships and restoring confidence. Together we use the authentic interactions with the horses to help build capacity in many areas of your life, such as learning skills to reduce stress and anxiety, alleviating mental health concerns, improving the ability to make appropriate choices and becoming aware of patterns that no longer serve us, developing clear and healthy boundaries, learning how to make heartfelt connections or increasing communication skills.

I work with women and young people.
Have you lost your way? Has grief or a sense of hopelessness stolen your joy? Do you struggle with self-confidence, anxiety, shame, or self-doubt? Are you desiring a deeper sense of meaning and purpose in your life? Would life be better if you could find your authentic self; getting reacquainted with who you really are? I believe new beginnings and fresh starts are possible. As a registered counsellor I do not provide my services under Medicare or Mental Health Care Plans.

Navigating life after a late-in-life ADHD diagnosis (whether clinically diagnosed or self-diagnosed) can often feel incredibly isolating and overwhelming. Finding the right support in a timely manner is tough, and even when you do, it might not be the right fit. You may feel frustrated when the strategies don't work or are hard to follow, leaving you wondering, "What's the point of a diagnosis if nothing changes?"

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
