Taking small steps can be a helpful way to st art.
I support adult clients through difficult life stages. I work with clients to help manage Anxiety, Depression, self-esteem and confidence issues, and work and study stress. I can offer a space to safely explore and check out the thoughts and feelings that come up at those times; and help clients reconnect with what's important and meaningful in life.

Are you looking for a place where you can be listened to and heard in a way that helps you understand yourself more deeply? Do you have a sense that life shouldn't feel so hard, but don't know how to feel better? Know that you are not alone. I understand that as human beings we are naturally self-protecting. Often this means that we attempt to bypass emotional discomfort in an effort to protect ourselves from pain. This avoidance tends to mean our suffering lingers and manifests in ways we have little control over such as; anxiety, depression, destructive relationships, unhealthy ways to cope and even physical symptoms.

Taking the time to care for your mental health is an important p art of building a sense of wellbeing, connectedness, sense of self and relationships.
I work as an art psychotherapist with adults and children that have experienced trauma, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, health related issues and have worked in community contexts to support parents and their children. Sometimes it can be hard to express our experiences verbally and working through creative means can help us gain an understanding of ourselves and enable us to express and find emotional relief for issues that might otherwise seem overwhelming. It provides a way of expressing our inner world without the need for words. Art therapy is suitable for all ages and requires no prior artistic skills.

One of the Art processes I use for trauma, is a form of guided drawing, which teaches you how to regulate your nervous system and facilitates healing without going back into the 'story' over and over again.
I am an Art Therapist and Transpersonal Counsellor. We work together to help you gain insight, recognise and change negative patterns of behaviour, and gain greater resilience and help you to further your personal growth, and reach your full potential. Transpersonal means that that we work on the psychological, spiritual, physiological and sociological aspects of what it is to be human. I am also a graduate from the Institute For Sensorimotor Art Therapy, and offer Healing Trauma with Guided Drawing.

Prior art experience is not needed for art therapy, as it is an opportunity to experiment and approach mental health in a playful and explorative environment, which is valuable for everyone.
Hi, I'm Samuel (He/They/She/Any) and I'm a non-binary/genderfluid Arts Psychotherapist. In life I have used the creative arts as a way of understanding, listening to and responding to my experiences and inner conflicts. I’m passionate about integrating our inner and outer selves and believe in the value the arts offer in encountering resources and parts of ourselves which aren’t accessed in normal daily life. I offer a gentle, non-judgemental and inclusive therapeutic space for you to reveal yourself as we explore struggles, hopes and what growth and resolution looks like for you at this time.

Art therapy can help to reduce stress, understand conflict, and improve self-awareness and interpersonal skills.
I am an Art Therapist who is committed to support the development of my clients, physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. Art therapy creates a visual language of communication and personal expression as an alternative to 'talk only' therapy, when words or feelings are hard to express. My person-centred and psychodynamic approach to therapy is also informed by IFS and Mindfulness practice. I am a creative and thoughtful individual who works in a collaborative and compassionate manner with children, young people and adults when their emotions, thinking and behaviour is out of balance.

Art ThIf you are unsure if art therapy is right for you or would just like to find out more about the services Alison provides, you are welcome to email any questions and/or request a free phone consultation to discuss whether art therapy could assist with your current needs and goals.
Art Therapy is becoming increasingly popular with therapy clients due to the unique ability to bypass the logical thinking mind and go deep to the root cause of many of our behaviours and beliefs in the zone of the unconscious mind. Many clients find art therapy less confronting and more enjoyable than other therapies. Alison discovered how effective art therapy could be for herself, about 15 years ago as a stressed, workaholic business owner also juggling a young family. For the past 2.5 years Alison has had the pleasure of working with children, adolescent and adult clients in hospital and community settings.

Art Therapy is my primary treatment method: a gentle and considered way to explore challenges and issues. I always speak about the 3 E's that you will encounter as we work together. AT is emergent, experiential & embodied. It is more than talk therapy alone. Through creative processes we can locate and reconsider experiences not easily put into words. I enjoy holding space to share your thoughts, feelings and future ambitions visually. As a lived experience practitioner with a history of recovery, I understand how challenging it can be to seek support, but welcome folks trying a session to see if you find my style a good fit.

I bring four decades of experience in mental health, art, design. I work with individuals, couples, and family members who seek to change their relationships with themselves and others. I aim to open possibilities to people who have little hope for change, struggle with depression, anxiety, and trauma symptoms, feeling overwhelmed and lost. This is often accompanied by counterproductive soothing behaviours such as substance use, addiction to gambling, gaming, sex, or screen use. Further, some clients may stay in relationships that deepen their belief that they cannot become the agents of their own lives.

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioural therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
