Psychodynamic Counselling in Sydney, NSW
I am a Counsellor and Psychotherapist working from a Psychoanalytical Psychodynamic perspective to support people to find understanding of their anxieties and stresses that may have been present for years.
Through understanding and engaging with difficult memories and experiences from the past, more space becomes possible for spontaneity, free from anxiety and self-denigration, a genuine ability to respond more fully, in the present, to those people close to you and in work situations. Rather than reacting in old and unhelpful ways, through a supportive therapeutic relationship where difficult issues can be thought about and talked through together, new conscious choices for your life are possible and energy and full potential realised.

I am not a devotee to any particular approach, however I base my work on the Relational Psychodynamic framework, drawing also on other techniques.
Due to various reasons, and often reasons beyond our control, we might hide from ourselves ... in ourselves, or in other people. Depression, anxiety, grief ... We fall, we rise. We laugh, we love, but we feel anger and pain. In a conversation with another we could find our way out of this state. Recovery from trauma perhaps is not about forgetting the past; perhaps it's about expanding your Self, your narrative.

I draw from a range of depth-oriented therapeutic modalities such as Dream Work, Jungian Psychology, Internal Family Systems Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Somatic Psychotherapy and Psychedelic Integration.
With a deeply curious and open-minded approach, I work in a way that integrates the paradigms of ancient wisdom and evidence based practice. I believe that there is a unique intelligence behind the challenges or experiences individuals bring to therapy. I aim to be led by this inherent intelligence, with an understanding that we all have a natural inclination towards health and wholeness when we are provided with the appropriate support.

Psychodynamic Counsellors
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
