I work with people who experience anxiety, panic attacks, depression, stress, low self-esteem, grief, sleep issues, low motivation, parent-child or other close relationship challenges, workplace stress among other issues. Together, we can think about ways to reach into your inner resources to be your most resilient self, whether that means accessing more self compassion, assertiveness, better boundaries or challenging those old beliefs that no longer serve you.

I am a Clinical Psychologist with 13 years of experience. I am incredibly passionate about supporting women in all stages of their life, including fertility, pre-natal/postnatal period, first time mothers, empty nesters, retirees etc. I've also supported many people through their depression, grief and anxiety (social anxiety, generalised anxiety, panic, agoraphobia), especially those who are experiencing mental health issues for the first time. It can be frightening not knowing whether, what you're feeling is normal, and whether you would recover. Getting help early on, from experienced mental health professionals is very important.

It's OK to feel daunted by the prospect of counselling; sessions with me will be collaborative and will go at your own pace. There will be no judgment, you won't have to talk about anything that feels too painful until you are ready and I will not tell you what to do. Sometimes people think they have to be “crazy” or have mental health issues, or have experienced a severe trauma to see a therapist. My response is, if it’s important to you, then it’s worth talking about with someone. It doesn’t matter how small you think the issue is, talking about it can help.

The repetition of these unsatisfactory behaviours, thoughts & feelings is what leads most clients through my door. MY TASK as your counsellor is to provide an environment that disrupts your current level of functioning & move you towards change and renewed progression. I observe your Discrepancies, Mixed Messages and Inner Conflicts within your Narrative and Behaviours, regarding the most personal dimensions of your LIFE Challenges.

I have a passion for working with clients to resolve trauma. Making sense of traumatic experiences, their effect on our mental health and relationships, and processing these safely, allows for us to be our most authentic and integrated self. I also work with individuals, parents and carers supporting their children or loved ones with acute mental health and traumatic experiences.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
