Jacob and Amna will help you...“Once you understand the four mechanisms that determine why different parts of your ‘self’ do disturbing behaviours, then you can begin to compassionately change your behaviours in a sustainable way” Child mechanism an internal override of unique expression. Adolescent mechanism an attempt to override Externally. Adult mechanism an override of the Adolescent Mechanism. Self-Distraction/Medication an attempt to override seemingly overwhelming feelings. Our counsellors get the most fulfilment and satisfaction by helping people become ’emotionally independent’.

Brad has successfully worked with clients from all ages and backgrounds to help address issues as broad as relationship difficulties, poor self-image, career development and academic results. With over two decades as an educator and learning support teacher, he has developed an insight into the complex issues that families face during the schooling years. Brad uses a variety of counselling tools to help his clients explore their own thoughts and patterns of behaviour to move past disappointments and difficult experiences, or to grow in areas that will allow them to think more clearly and maintain healthy and positive relationships.

Sometimes life is hard. We look around and think 'how did I become this person?' Or even have us questioning who we are. During these times it can be helpful to seek some clarity from someone without bias or judgment. As a trauma-informed counsellor, I am passionate about helping people face the challenges life brings & doing all I can to equip them to overcome whatever it is they may be going through. We are not meant to struggle through alone.

Every person is the expert in their own life. Everybody is doing the best they can with what they've got. Every person has strengths as well as areas of vulnerability. Every person has a unique story. Emotionally, every person intrinsically knows where they need to get to, but sometimes they just can't find the 'map'. As the therapist, my role is not to 'solve' the problems life throws at people, but rather to help people tap into their strengths, help them find their 'map', and help them safely take the journey. We are never lost; we are just finding new ways to write more of our story.

I specialize in Addictions, Mental Health, Dual diagnosis, ADHD, Anger, Trauma and Parenting counselling using Root-Cause therapy Embodied processing, CBT, walking and pet therapy.
Embodied Processing is a technique which is used to safely meet and digest the underlying wounds, which is what often hides behind and is the driving force of many of our surface symptoms. Root-Cause Therapy is a trauma healing method that uses regression and progression practices which allow the completion of unprocessed emotions. This allows the unprocessed to finally process and no longer cause unwanted thoughts, behaviors and symptoms. Walking and Pet therapy combined decreasing anxiety and stress, reduce feelings of fear or worry, increase feelings of social support and provide motivation, stimulation and focus.

Whether you’re navigating neurodivergence, parenting challenges, or just the complexities of everyday life, I’m here to offer a compassionate and non-judgemental space where you can feel seen heard and supported.
As a neuroaffirming clinician I take a client centred and strengths approach, respecting your unique neurotype and what works best for you! What might we talk about in therapy? Almost anything! Perhaps it's stress, anxiety or depression. Or exploring your neurodivergent identity (ADHD/Autism), the assessment process (I conduct ADHD/Autism assessments also), the executive functions of the brain or substance use difficulties. Or maybe its parent support (raising neurodivergent kids and/or being ND yourself), strategies for time management, procrastination, emotion regulation strategies or values...the list goes on!

Parenting Counsellors

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
