I work with a range of adult clients with mental health issues. Prior to studying counselling I worked for over two decades as registered nurse in areas such as HIV/Sexual health, AOD, psychiatry and community mental health. I have a sound understanding of pharmacology and co-morbidities. Prior to setting up my private counselling and supervision practice I spent 10 years working within various community NGO's including LGBTIQ, Aboriginal, women's health and residential rehabilitation. Currently I contract with NGO's as a clinical and group supervisor and service a small case load of private clients.

You are looking for solutions to situations that leave you continually frustrated and wondering how to fix things. You might have a recurring theme of something that isn't working for you, or life is chaotic; or even that you are on a treadmill you desperately want to get off! Sometimes it may seem as though the relationships you want are completely out of your reach. Counselling can help you grow and change when you feel heard, understood and by understanding your own self.

I hold an empathic and safe space for you to make sense of transitional life stages including young adulthood, parenthood, retirement, separation and grief. These rites of passage can feel overwhelming, exhausting, burdensome and uncertain. It can be a lonely time, but it does not have to be. Sessions with me are a time to pause, connect and unpack what you are carrying through the lens of an intergenerational, developmental, attachment-theory, trauma informed and interpersonal neurobiological process. I work in depth and relationally with clients who want to experience impactful and meaningful connection, support and healing.

Through working with her clients, Pamela understands that for some, whilst life can be extremely painful to live, the courage within themselves gives them the hope to create opportunities for themselves to build a meaningful life. She understands that while the pain may not completely go away, that it can become tolerable and no longer prevent clients from being able to pursue their goals. She understands that all of us need a space to go to be able to work on things without being judged. She believes that her clients do know themselves better, and as such meaningful work in sessions needs to be collaborative.

I provide a holistic approach to counselling and have been a grief counsellor for over 20 years allowing clients to gently explore the 'stuck' place in their grieving cycle. I work from an emotionally focused perspective though also include a diverse range of therapies to suit individual needs. I believe my role as a counsellor is one of guidance to assist a person to work through the various emotions they have brought to counselling. I use a person centred approach and also believe the most important part of the client/counsellor relationship is the rapport that is built by the trust that develops in the process.

If you're experiencing anything that has reached you at a deeper level in life, whether it be a visitation from a deceased loved one, a vision of the future, a soul connection, a near-death experience, feeling like you're not on the right path, strange energetic experiences, a feeling there's something you need to do or achieve in this life or anything you would struggle to tell others about, I might be the right practitioner for you.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
