I believe that the stories we tell ourselves shape our lives, our identity, and our sense of 'place' in this world. We can impact and transform our lives by exploring how we engage with our life stories - by learning to tell our stories in ways that make us stronger. Narrative Therapy, to me, is a respectful and hope-filled counseling method that connects a client with their agency and stories, empowering them to shape a different future.
Narrative Therapy seeks to help people deconstruct the dominant, problem-saturated stories that have had a negative impact. In narrative counseling, the client learns to elevate alternate stories of resistance, courage, connectedness, and perseverance. The process is respectful of the client's dignity and agency, for they are the expert of their story.
If you have a problem story that is behaving a bit like a raucous, drunken dinner guest around your table of life, I can help you. You have all the skills to 'host' your life so that problem stories become 'quieter' and you can learn to tell your preferred, strong stories.
