Prior to starting private practice, I worked for many years with children and families who have experienced abuse and trauma. Whilst I no longer work with children, this developmental lense strongly influences how I approach adult clients because I believe many difficulties that we face as adults have origins in childhood.
I use an eclectic approach in my work, borrowing from a range of approaches, primarily ones that are trauma informed. These include Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Havening, as well as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
I tailor my approach to suit whoever I am working with, acknowledging that people process information and emotions in different ways. I would consider myself as warm and approachable and make people feel safe and comfortable, which is one of the most important foundations of the therapeutic process.
