Dr. Scheel is a highly seasoned and NYC trained psychotherapist with several degrees and post-doctoral certifications in Clinical Social Work and Psychology. Treating individuals for more than twenty years facing depression, anxiety, eating disorders, relationship and sexual intimacy issues, Dr. Scheel believes that mutual respect, empathy, and trust are essential in the therapeutic relationship in order for change and growth to occur. Psychological awareness and understanding what drives one’s emotions and thoughts enable conscious choice, behavioral changes, and thoughtful and reflective responses in life, love, and work.
Dr. Scheel treats individuals struggling with sexual performance issues, sexual affairs, porn addiction, and issues related to sexual intimacy.
Couples are also increasingly stressed by work and the impact of culture and social media. Loss of communication, intimacy and sexual issues, lack of joy, disappointments, and failed expectations, contribute to disengagement and loss of attachment in relationships. Repairing relationships through insight, mutual empathy and behavioral changes enable couples to move forward in making sound couple decisions and in changing their relational path.
Dr. Scheel is considered an expert in the treatment of eating disorders with a CEDS credential (Certified Eating Disorder Specialist.) Helping patients and families create a relational infrastructure and repair damaged relationships is a strong component in recovery. There are many factors that contribute to the development of an eating disorder, and treating individuals, therefore, requires an understanding of the psychiatric, psychological, and relational underpinnings, as well as addressing symptoms.
Dr. Scheel also provides Sex Therapy and is a member of SSTAR (Society for Sex Therapy & Research,) and completed NYU Medical School Langone's Training Program in Sex and Human Sexuality. Treatment of sex and sexuality issues require utilizing insight-oriented and relational psychotherapy and addressing symptoms, when occurring, with Cognitive Behavioral Treatment.

When Food is Family explores the metaphoric voice and the role the eating disorder plays in the family.
