Haruna Miyamoto-Borg LCSW
Haruna Miyamoto-Borg, LCSW, is a licensed psychotherapist with more than 15 years of experience of working in New York City—specializing in working with couples of diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, social-class, and sexual orientations. This rich clinical experience has fostered a deep understanding of the cultural and environmental influences that nurture and shape our lives. Individuals, people in intimate relationships, and families are seen through the lens of understanding, collaboration, and compassion. Clients continue to prove that, no matter where we come from, we all have inner resilience to cope with life stressors. And that it is sometimes the most challenging of these stressors that lead us to personal and interpersonal transformation and growth. Earlier in her career, Miyamoto-Borg dedicated herself to working in the not-for-profit sector. She worked for the Center for Urban Community Services—which is the largest non-profit organization serving the homeless population in New York City—for four years. In this position, she worked with people who were affected by chronic and severe mental illnesses, substance abuse, HIV, poverty, and social injustice.
Her post-graduate school training includes completion of the eating disorder program at William Alanson White Institute in Manhattan and certification as Anger Management Specialist II by the National Anger Management Association. Currently, Miyamoto-Borg is in training at Ackerman Institute for The Family in New York City.
