Daniel Pfau Ph.D.
Daniel Pfau, Ph.D., (they, them, their) is a queer and genderqueer neuroscientist specializing in sex differences and endocrinology. Currently, they are a Postdoctoral researcher at the University of Michigan studying a mouse model of gender-affirming hormone therapy. Previously, they examined relationships between the brain, steroid hormones and the environment in both lizards and mice. They have been featured on Ologies with Alie Ward, PRIDE Podcast with Levi Chambers, and The Conversation.
Dr. Pfau is a parent to three amazing children, partner, and a co-founding member and grassroots organizer for Queering Medicine, a queer-led grassroots organization seeking to address LGBTQIA+ health disparities. They have spent over 15 years increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM and academia through advocacy and education. This work has included consent education in the Greek system, championing LGBTQIA rights and experiences at the administrative level, STEM outreach to K-12 students and the queer community, and leading/developing trainings aimed at increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion in academia.
Dr. Pfau earned a B.S. in Animal Science and M.S. in Biological Sciences at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. They earned a Ph.D. in Neuroscience at Michigan State University, East Lansing, where they received support from the National Science Foundation through a Graduate Research Fellowship.
