Teru Clavel

Teru Clavel focuses on the education of Gen Z for their future. As the first-gen only-child to a single mom and single mom herself, Clavel raised her own three children in the public schools of Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tokyo, and Palo Alto. Back in her hometown of New York City emboldened by her life experiences, she tirelessly advocates for education reform.

Clavel has written columns on education for the Japan Times and the Financial Times, and she has made appearances on Fareed Zakaria's GPS, The TODAY Show, CBS This Morning, CNBC’s Squawk Box, and Channel NewsAsia. She has also been interviewed on countless radio shows and podcasts.

Having studied Asian Studies as an undergraduate at Dartmouth College to then pursue a master of science in comparative international education, Teru was an education journalist in Asia. Upon her return to the US, her widely acclaimed bestselling book World Class was published by Simon & Schuster imprint Atria. In it, she details education policies and cultural practices that lead to academically and emotionally thriving children. Hailed by Blackstone’s founder Steve Schwarzman as “One of the smartest people I’ve met” and Arne Duncan as “The voice of 21st-century education,” Her passion to make sure every child and adult alike pursues quality and lifelong education is unparalleled.

She unabashedly knocks on every door asking questions at every level of international and local government and at global corporations and organizations like the World Economic Forum, Council on Foreign Relations, United Nations, and World Bank. She’s visited countless schools and education conferences across the country. Her network has both depth and breadth to pull together Rebel Z and to truly make a difference. Prior to her pursuit of education, Teru was a designer in NYC and hosted a show for HGTV titled Date with Design. Teru speaks fluent English and Japanese and is conversant in French and Mandarin.
