Howard J. Rankin, Ph.D., has Master's and Doctoral degrees in clinical psychology from the University of London. He started his career at The Institute of Psychiatry’s Addiction Research Unit, doing both clinical and research work. He also taught at the University of London and at Oxford University. He is the author of 35 scientific articles on addiction. After 10 years, he left the academic world and became a consultant clinical psychologist at St. Andrew’s Hospital, where he was part of the addiction unit and ran the eating disorders unit, as well as being a general consultant.

Dr. Rankin was recruited to the United States, where he was the Clinical Director of a leading behavioral health and wellness program before opening his own practice incorporating neurofeedback and other neurotechnologies. His work has been widely featured in the media.

His most recent book is Falling to Grace: The Art and Science of Redemption. He produces and hosts the podcast How Not to Think. His major interests are in cognitive neuroscience, communication, and redemption. Recent relevant books include I Think Therefore I Am Wrong, Intuitive Rationality: The New Behavioral Direction of AI, and Power Talk: The Art of Effective Communication.
