Valentine Day's Thoughts on Love and Marriage

Cherish your loved one!

This post is in response to
The Woman Who Saved Marriage
Happy Valentine's Day!

In honor of Valentine's Day, Diane Sollee of SmartMarriages.com once sent out the collection below of thoughts about love and marriage.

Diane and I share a missionary zeal about gettting the word out about the importance of learning the skills that enable spouses to be great marriage partners. To be a great baseball player you need skills like throwing and catching and batting. To be a great spouse you need skills like talking cooperatively about sensitive issues, cleaning up after upsets, dealing calmly with the underlying difficulties instead of dumping anger on your partner, making decisions in a shared win-win way, and filling your home with warm emotional sunshine. There's no day like Valentine's Day for recommitting to becoming the best marriage partner possible.

I personally feel especially appreciative to Diane Sollee because her gatherings inspired me to follow my book on marriage skills, The Power of Two, with The Power of Two Workbook, and then with an online workshop program, PowerOfTwoMarriage.com.

Have fun enjoying Diane's selection of quotes!

Happy Valentine's Day!

I'm very neat. My wife is messy - never picks anything up. Doesn't even notice the mess - it's below her radar.

I cured myself from my annoyance with her by imagining that she had died and then asking myself, "If you could bring her back to life but she'd still be messy, leave clutter all over the house - 5 pairs of shoes in the living room, would you still want her back?"

"Yes, for sure!"

And, it cured me. Whenever I get annoyed with her mess, I rerun the script.

Happy Valentine's Day!

It's you I like,

It's not the things you wear.

It's not the way you do your hair,

But it's you I like.

The way you are right now

The way down deep inside you

Not the things that hide you

Not your diplomas...

They're just beside you.

But it's you I like,

Every part of you,

Your skin, your eyes, your feelings,

Whether old or new.

I hope that you'll remember

Even when you're feeling blue,

That it's you I like,

It's you yourself, it's you

It's you I like!
